OK. I did a water change today and took the opportunity to catch some fry to take to my lfs. I lost count how many were in the bag but it was a lot. Got back home and had another look. It seems I have a lot more fry in there than i realised 😆 this may take a while.

Assasin snails are great. Especially if you have a planted tank which you may introduce pest snails with new plants. I have a large colony I my 40 gallon tank. I never have an issue with pest snails as my army disposes of them fast.

Actualy I didn't plan on getting duckweed. It hitched a lift on some mail order plants

Assasin snails are awesome. I have a colony myself and never have pest snails. They are that efficient. I would not house any other snails with them.

100% agree. Buy your own test kit. It's not expensive and later in time if you have sick fish you can then rule out water parameters yourself. Also it's satisfying to see the results of your cycle yourself.

Update. I have talked to my local LFS and he is willing to take some babies off my hands. I just need to get them to him. Will pop in on way home from work to get a fish bag. I am keeping the duckweed in check by scooping quite a bit out on each water change.

The only difference is the duckweed as I have always had a reasonably heavily planted tank.

I have often donated mature media to help kick start a cycle. It's the only way to speed it up.

I drain my tank into the garden using a garden hose, then refill it via the upstairs shower so it's the correct temperature (using the same hose) while dosing with prime. I do a 75% water change every 2 weeks.

You have started something here. It always gets into agro 😆. I keep eSHa2000 and eSHaEXIT also a good amount of carbon to put into my filter to help get rid of the meds.

Yea. I run a fluval 307. It's on my 180litre tank. Totaly overfiltered but I feel better too much than not enough.

I used to use floss all the time until I ran out. When I noticed it didn't seem to effect the water clarity I just replaced it with other media.

Can't say that I have. Although using a hose means any liforms are going to be 29 foot away 😉

I will clean mine once a year (if i remember). I just take them outside and blast them through with a hose.

If your tank is already cycled I would run both filters side by side for a few weeks and then put your mature sponge into the new external filter. With canister filters it doesn't realy matter what media you use it's your choice. I personally use ceramic rings in mine.

Cut a slice of Cucumber. Weigh it down with a paper clip. Put it in the tank and he will love it.

OK. I'm cool with that as it's promoting the kiddies. I just scoop it out at each water change. Would it realy promote the survival of the fry?

I have used Prime for years with no issues and it's expensive here in the UK. Maybe I will switch to API.

I wouldn't worry too much about accidently pinching the guy, all plecs are armoured and are very tough. The white dots sound normal for an albino although I have only had one in the past. Ditto. He will want somewhere to hide, plants don't realy cut it as they want like hard cover, cave, rocks...

I have no idea what plants they are. They have three surface leaves and about a 4mm root.

What type of pleco are they? If they are common pleco those guys can get pretty huge and very messy so will limit your other stock drastically.

Sorry for the late reply I have been away. The controller is not essential as you can use a plug in timer the same as with a flourescenr fitting. The controller just means you can do lots of fancy stuff with the lighting colours.
