Best filter and aquarium kit for shrimp?

This is the one that I’m using on my shrimp tank. I squeeze it out maybe once a month and it is just one more grazing area in my tank for my shrimp and micro crabs to enjoy. Fluval Intake Sponge (click link to see product) My little HOB filter has never killed a shrimp and it does an...

Best filter and aquarium kit for shrimp?

I keep my cherry shrimp in a 5 gallon TopFin aquarium kit which included an adjustable flow HOB Silentstream PF10 filter suited for up to a 10 gallon. I stick a Fluval filter intake sponge over the intake tube and it does a great job for me. My shrimp have been breeding and the colony...

Urgent! Is my Oranda going to live?

I’m so sorry that your beautiful fish lost her battle yesterday. I held hope she would recover. You did everything you could think of for her. I hope you have some great pictures of her from her better days.

    Hello

Hi gwand and welcome to TFF, one of the friendlier fish forums on the net. The fish you acquire will play a role in the appropriate way to feed them while you go on vacation. For example, if you get a Badis Badis fish that prefers live foods only, you may end up having someone come and give...

    Hornwort

I have kept hornwort off and on over the years. Right now for the past 9 months I’ve had it in a 5.5 gallon tank. It was so thick I pulled out about 8 cups of the stuff so I could see in order to remove molts when I was trying to solve a problem. Anyhow, this tank has had dwarf saggitaria and...

    Plant Matter Clogging Filter Intake

Why not put the root end piece of the plant into a refugium-like container made from hard plastic with ventilation slits/holes for water circulation? Then any root material will stay in the refugium where it can be scooped out and removed without fighting the fish inside the aquarium.

    Tropical fish tank cleaning

A friend of mine owns a restaurant and they had a 72 gallon saltwater aquarium that was brought in and set up by the same company who services it. When a fish died, they replaced it, or they would change fish for different fish. I think it became a health code issue thing for him and he had to...

    Scutariella Japonica?

Yes, I agree @Slaphppy7 just that one “Big Red” (import, one of my favorite individual shrimp). I keep a good eye on that tank and do literally spend hours looking at it. I even use my phone to zoom in for a closer look and would love to get a lens to make seeing the tiniest of things even...

    Scutariella Japonica?

Whatever this was/is, there seems to be some still there, or it has come back. It still seems to be the only shrimp in the tank affected. While the treatments I gave it seemed to improve things, it obviously hasn’t cured anything. I am going to research a little more and see if I can come up...

    Green water?

I kept goldfish years ago and they are messy fish, two in a 30 gallon. One day my tank water was so green I couldn‘t see anything in the tank at all. Beneficial bacteria was poured in that evening and when I woke up the next day the tank was clear and back to normal. I just fed a little less...

    Good tropical fish sellers

Those work for the air bubbles and you can make the air bubbles slow or fast, and I do have one of those in my shrimp tank to adjust the bubbler, but I’m talking about dripping water drops from the aquarium into the shipping water and shrimp bag (which I pour into a small bucket to begin the...

Is this a good shrimp tank

Shrimp Mineral GH/KH+ is for freshwater shrimp and it is what I use because I use RO water. It provides the minerals and trace elements shrimp need for good health when using RO water. Perhaps your tap water provides what your shrimp needs, but perhaps it does not. You won’t know unless you...

    Fish tanks

None of us are going to know your general area like you do. Don’t you have any local fish stores or any of the big box pet stores nearby? You can always wait for a sale at a local store and you can call them to ask them if they can tell you of any upcoming sales. If you live in a rural area...

Is this a good shrimp tank

Do you have a TDS meter? (Total Dissolved Solids) If not, get one and keep the water within the parameters for your shrimp. I keep my neos around 180 TDS. Do you use RO water and add salts? Salty Shrimp Minerals GH/KH+ can help you get the water just right. I use this to get my TDS to the...

Urgent! Is my Oranda going to live?

Egg binding can happen in lone goldfish as they have no male to rub/press against them to help release eggs, or if water temps become too warm, or the light period is 12 hours or more. Some oranda breeders to express the eggs when fish become egg bound. That condition should be treated by a...

    Guppy fry control

Use a turkey baster to suck them out and put the babies into your separate betta tank, cichlid tank, etc.
  25. Aqua67

What is curbing my guppy population growth?

Sure, the new fish species may be eating the babies which some people introduce for the helpful purpose of population control. Do you have bushy/floating plant areas for fry to hide?
  26. Aqua67

    Deficiency?

Focus on trace minerals if your tap water contains nitrates. With fish in the aquarium you likely won’t need to add nitrates.

    My plants are getting worse

Frogbit likes medium to high light and the dwarf saggitaria likes medium light. The other plants that you say aren’t doing well actually do much better with a lot less light. You might be over fertilizing with all of those supplements. Generally speaking, it is probably easiest to just find a...

  36. Aqua67

    Deficiency?

Yes, three weeks is kind of new to the aquarium. I think it is just the environment change and not a deficiency since the rest of your plants do not appear to be having problems and you are using two types of fertilizers. Just don’t over-fertilize as that can cause problems too. I don’t have...

    Angelfish advice

Generally speaking angelfish like to have plants at the ends of the tank, or a place they can retreat if they want to feel more secure, depending on what is happening inside or outside the tank. My angelfish likes to hide around a twiggy piece of a spiderwood tree and my neons generally hide in...
