Can anubius be propagated through leaves alone?

I found an anubias leaf floating around my angelfish aquarium yesterday and I left it floating amongst my dwarf water lettuce which isn’t doing so well in that tank. I took a couple of pictures of the stem from different angles and I will check on its progress and report back. It doesn’t...

Red Shrimp, Blue Shrimp, I'm Getting New Shrimp!

Those 3 pics all came from my mutt tank. They were each acquired as adults and were not hatched out in my tank. I believe the first one came from a guy not far from me who also keeps a mutt tank. I traded him 15 mutts for a 150W heater I was not planning on ever using (I have other spares...

Red Shrimp, Blue Shrimp, I'm Getting New Shrimp!

Sorry, to answer your question, I think the yellow shrimp would be a great choice. My skittles tank is also 2.5 gal and the yellow shrimp are so bright and easy to see. The dark blue dreams looks almost black in my tannin-filled water and they are hard to see. Here is a pic of my little...

Red Shrimp, Blue Shrimp, I'm Getting New Shrimp!

I have 3 shrimp tanks. One is super tiger caridina only. One is just red shrimp, although it has regular cherry and Bloody Mary - both from very different lines. So far only red babies, after 2 years together. One is a skittles neo tank with blue, red, yellow and orange, and soon to be some...

    Mystary plant killer.

I have 2 Nerite snails in one of my aquariums and I do not have an issue with my plants being eaten. I have never owned trumpet snails, but I’ve kept neons and rasboras in the past without issue to my plants. I’ve never kept the danios. My opinion is the trumpet snails are hungry. Perhaps it...

Dog question 9with a sad start)

I always remember the guy who first put those two breeds together (labrador and poodle) say that he regrets the day he mixed those breeds. https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/world/2019/09/26/dog-breeder-who-created-labradoodle-regrets-frankenstein-monster/3772586002/

    Can someone ID this fish?

I wish I had room for a bigger tank here and you could’ve rehomed the fish to me. I’m sure it found a good home though.

    Can someone ID this fish?

You know what? I think I lost the bet! Your fish probably is/was a Jack Dempsey juvenile. It isn’t going to fit well in your community at all.

    Can someone ID this fish?

Jack Dempsey is one of my “dream fish” if I ever get a spot to put a large aquarium. I “settled” for an electric blue acara instead. Looking at these pics again has me wanting another blue acara, this time one of the “normal” ones like the one pictured below. Trust me. That is a blue acara...

Obsessed with aquaria, glass jars and 9 gallon fishbowls (and other stuff)

Are you sure your “bloated” cardinal isn’t just filled with old eggs? I know that when breeding tetras, often the first batch of eggs are no good as they are old and have been in the fish for a long time. Often it takes 2 or 3 spawns before you get fertilized eggs because they have to get rid...

    Can someone ID this fish?

Your fish is a blue acara, NOT A JACK DEMPSEY. Yes, they are fine for a community tank, similar to angelfish.

    Can someone ID this fish?

I know I’m going against what the rest of the crowd is saying here, but this is a blue acara (not the electric blue, but the regular blue) aka Aequidens Pulcher…..in my opinion. I love the acaras and really miss the one I had (in my avatar photo). I believe the orange tip on the dorsal fin is...

    Leveling a tank

Before I set my aquarium down I put styrofoam sheets under the stand, then I put the aquarium on the stand and set up the tank.

    Thai Micro Crab

I do think this is the last crab in the tank. I’m considering getting him another batch of friends now. It must have been quite young when I acquired him about 16 months ago. It must be near the end of its life as I was told they only live a couple of years. This crab survived the shrimp...

Help! Fin rot or ill betta?

I can’t say that it is positively TB, and it could be something else, like one of the things mentioned by the others. I was just trying to offer some suggestions if it was TB. I’m not even sure TB can be cured. I thought I had a guppy once with TB, but I wasn’t sure. I euthanized the guppy...

    Opinions on PH/GH & KH

I also have well water so I know the troubles. I use RO water and remineralize (I have 3 shrimp tanks, 2 fish tanks) as I find it helps me get a good control on the water parameters and I can mix it up the same way each time. I like Brightwell products mostly for my fish tanks and I like the...

Tell me your last minute "uh oh, people are coming and house is a mess!" cleaning routine tips!

When I got to someone’s house, the first thing I notice when I walk inside is any smells. So maybe light a candle or diffuse some essential oils. You can drop a little essential oil on things in your guest bathroom and make sure the sink and faucets are sparkling clean, clean the toilet bowl...

Help! Fin rot or ill betta?

I’m so sorry that your fish is showing signs of possible TB. That bacteria could have been on any of the things you added to your tank, likely the plants as the bacteria is in the water. I’m not saying this would cure your fish, but botanicals probably wouldn’t hurt to have in your tank for...

    Best Nano Tank Light?

What a good deal you got at the garage sale. I also was lucky enough to find a 2.5 gal aquarium along with a filter and a light for $5, and then I traded some plants for 15 shrimp so I got a complete set up with shrimp for $5. I swapped the filter for a sponge filter I had laying around and...

    Sweaty hands can harm fish?

I would be more concerned about lotions or other toxins being on my skin more so than I would human sweat, but it is always a good idea to rinse your hands and dry them on a clean towel before working in the aquarium, in my opinion.

    Do you have Cherry Shrimp?

You can always trade shrimp for plants or other items you want, just check out those groups on social media. Just put your state in the title so you find people relatively close to you. I’m crazy about shrimp also and have 3 shrimp tanks.

Copepods in Shrimp Tank - Should I be concerned?

I think I’m going to suck out all the copepods I can using my turkey baster and since I’m already planning to breed some neon tetras this summer I might as well let them feast on those copepods for conditioning. I like I’m pretty sure the copepods came in on plants I bought from a LFS. The...

Copepods in Shrimp Tank - Should I be concerned?

Oh no they don’t. I’m not talking about amphipods anyways I’m talking about the copepods. I’ve kept amphipods for over 30 years in fish tanks and all was well. Two years ago I began keeping shrimp and thought amphipods might make good tankmates as they’re basically just small shrimp - WRONG...

How many fish for my aquarium size????

In my opinion, you could do the barbs but I wouldn’t add the labeos. I’m assuming you’re referring to the red tailed sharks though. Those get kind of aggressive and really should be in a larger tank (like twice the size you have).
