    Something is off....

ANYTIME things go awry in an otherwise healthy tank, ask yourself, "have I changed/added anything recently"? As for the wrapped coconuts, I've never purchased them that way, they've always been just preboiled, sanded, and cleaned I'm betting they're the culprit...keep those WCs coming, nix the...

Looking for some sage advice after falling into the Pets At Home trap

The beneficial bacteria adhere to surfaces in the tank (mainly the filter media in a newer tank; as the tank matures, the BB will colonize on all hard surfaces within the tank), so there's no danger in losing BB when vacuuming the substrate. If using vessels to refill the tank (not sure what a...

    Help - who's right here?

I clean my HOB filters once a month, my canister filter every 3 months. Dirty filter motors can seize up, and dirty filters in general can harbor nitrAtes.

    Which substrate and how much!

Sand would be just fine...I prefer sand instead of gravel in all of my tanks Here's a substrate volume calculator: https://spec-tanks.com/aquarium-substrate-calculator/

50% daily until that ammonia is gone will be just fine...are you using buckets or siphon hose to perform the WCs?

Looking for some sage advice after falling into the Pets At Home trap

Welcome to TFF First rule of fishkeeping: Never trust advice from pet store employees...no matter how sincere they may seem, they are there first and foremost to make $$$...the majority of the time, they are clueless about proper fishkeeping Looks like you are on track, be sure to stay on...

Why are my Amano shrimp not moving, despite perfect water parameters?

If they were doing fine in the original tank, and doing poorly in the new tank, I'd move them back In post #10 above, you stated that nitrItes in the original tank are reading 30...that's why I asked if you are confusing the two tests ('trItes and 'trAtes) Get that new kit, so that we can get...

Why are my Amano shrimp not moving, despite perfect water parameters?

NitrItes at that level are deadly to fish, and shrimp....are you certain you haven't confused 'trItes and 'trAtes? ANY level of nitrItes in the water = uncycled tank Get one of these ASAP, the strips can be inaccurate and unreliable, especially if aged...

Why are my Amano shrimp not moving, despite perfect water parameters?

The only "safe" amount of nitrIte is 0. What kind of test kit are you using? What kind of water conditioner?

No signs of nitrates. Should I still do water changes?

For the OP, regular water changes are the most important process we need to establish for maintaining a healthy tank https://advancedaquariumconcepts.com/water-changes-and-water-quality-in-aquariums/...

    Something is off....

Yeah, I see a bit of it now in this most recent vid...could possibly be ich, you aren't always going to see the actual "white spot" protozoan when fish are afflicted...I am certainly no fish disease expert, by any means, though, so keep that in mind Anything possibly causing undue stress on the...

    Something is off....

I don't really see the "itching", but it does like like their fins are clamped They look pale as well, are the lights always that bright in the tank? Coconuts...just the cleaned shells, correct?...where they exposed to any chemicals, by chance?

Can I Add a Single Cherry Shrimp Alongside Amanos?

RCS will breed, provided you have a mixture of males and females My RCS thrive alongside my amanos The amount of shrimplets that survive depends on how many hiding spots they are offered, until they have a chance to grow large enough to not be considered food for the guppies

    Fish sitting on sand.

Welcome to TFF ph is much less important than ammonia, nitrIte, and nitrAte levels...what are these readings? What kind of test kit do you use? Was the tank cycled before adding fish?

  26. Slaphppy7

    Pondering an online order...

The only problem with that is you won't get the biggest bang for your (shipping) buck... I've had great luck with TWS...they only guarantee no DOAs with overnight delivery, which is a flat-rate fee ($35.00, if I'm not mistaken)...whether you order 2 bags of fish, or 10 I always order as many...

    Fish Tank Transfer

Yes. Be sure the filter media stays wet (submerged) during the entire process, and any deco as well...you will lose a bit of beneficial bacteria by changing the substrate, but that shouldn't be a huge issue, just keep a close eye on water params for the next several days after the tank is set...

    Fish Tank Transfer

How long has the tank been set up? How is it stocked? If it is cycled, there's no reason to cycle it again, just preserve your filter media during the move.

    Is this fungus?

Good for you with the cycling BTW, using pure ammonia simplifies matters; rotting food ammonia levels are harder to control

    Black shrimp, how on earth????

Shrimp are very easy to sex; males have concave bellies, while females have convex bellies The one in post #7 appears to be female, but a pic from the side of the shrimp would help https://acuariopets.com/how-to-identify-cherry-shrimp-gender/
