My Dream Aquarium- 55 Gallon - Plans

Exactly the reason why I do not ever recommend hatchetfish anymore. I bought 12 for my tank, after 6 months, had 6. I waited another 6 months, bought 10 more, only 8 survived quarantine, moved them to the big tank, had 12 and voila, a year or so later and I again only have 6. Never again. Jump...

    What is wrong (with me)

I so do, I work from home and this tank is right in front of the couch too, so I spend a lot of time looking into it, doing the stretching in front of it,... it is the largest tank I have I did change the scape a bit back few months and took out most of the wood and didnt find the replacement...

And too large i assume. Is there perhaps a website listing fish by their activity levels? Could be useful for occasions:)

    What is wrong (with me)

I have been looking at some larger fish and boy, it is hard to pick. So many choices and conflicting info on which are compatible, not nippy and would work with the pearl gourami / bolivian rams. I wonder for example if congo tetras would work in my tank. Some sites say too nippy for pearls...

    What is wrong (with me)

I did consider adding cherry barbs, since I broke my south american theme anyway. I am just afraid i keep throwing fish at the tank, i never had so many species in one. I am usually two or three species per tank kind of girl and this is new to me and sort of scary. The embers are dying out...

    What is wrong (with me)

I think the surface film was only from the feeding, i don't usually see it. I purposely never had surface movement because of the hatchetfish, so it was always aimed mid water for the bamboo shrimp. It is an Eheim 2217 with a 1000lph but granted the pipes do need cleaning again. And the plant...

    What is wrong (with me)

I know it is a weird title and maybe even a werider topic. I have had this particular tank for two years and I keep adding and adjusting and thinking about it, and I am just not liking it. I do not understand why, the community should work, the fish are ok, colors good, behavior sometimes...

    Rabbit snails

Let me share my faunus pictures from when I got it last January ( as i apparently never photographed it after as it is a rarity to see it fully, and the broken shell repaired nicely in my water ) https://rybicky.net/fotogalerie.php?sekce=nadrz&c=20197&s=62&sl=0&vse=0...

    Rabbit snails

Are faunus ater only brackish? I have some tylomelania sp (as sold here, i assume some are perfecta though i can't find a reliable source with the differences. I have the two most common types, brown shell, yellow body with wrinkles or beige body no visible wrinkles) and i am keeping one...

    Rabbit snails

I am fairly sure those are faunus ater. Rabbits have large long bodies while faunus are almost hidden. Feeding and burrowing requirements are the same though

    Rabbit snails

but they are just so fun to watch! Give them like a green bean or a pea and you will see. Anyways, I bought 5 two years ago, now have 13 of these cute little buggers. They grow slowly though :)

    Show me your cube tanks!!

If I were to measure what the plant would look like, without the cutting, the donations, the replanting, it would have like two meters at least This is what I gave away in the summer :) Fun plants. Gotta love them

    Show me your cube tanks!!

Sadly no clue anymore. It is a cutting from a cutting from a piece from a main plant that was in someone else tank 12 years ago and since then it is in all of my tanks and it looks the same. I think it was supposed to be nana, but it has gotten quite large

    Springtails/microfauna with fish - how

So, on at least two of my tanks ( well those that have frogbit) i have the white springtails that hop on the water surface. My question is, how is that even possible? One of the tank have clown killifish, a surface feeding fish, the other one has luminatus, they dont mind hunting on the surface...

    Rio Ucayali Biotope Project

I am hoping you are having a lid on this tank, for the hatchetfish :) they are reaaaaally good jumpers. Like 0,5cm gap and they are gone. Also they need areas with open water surface and calm parts while they also need the floating plants but not too many. They wont stray from the surface level...

    Show me your cube tanks!!

I am almost embarrassed to show my cube, as it is nearly nowhere near as nice as the others. It is a 40x40x40 cm cube with an ikea lamp that is mostly turned off and just lives out of the window light. Thus the low demand plants

Seeking hillstream loach requirements, tankmates, and river tank setup advice

I was talking about root tab fertilizers and when you uproot plants or mess up with substrate that has them as it releases too much too quick. There are also observations of hillstreams being killed by using no planaria and one other medication, so they are for sure sensitive

Seeking hillstream loach requirements, tankmates, and river tank setup advice

I cant help you with much, I posted very similar question not too long ago here - https://www.fishforums.net/threads/how-to-make-a-tank-better-for-a-hillstream-loach.490235/ and it sums up my nearly year long experience with them My latest ( and last) attempt was adding the airstone that works...

So, a bolivian ram in a community setting?

The b-ram spawning is sort of a localized deal. They will lay eggs and guard 5x5cm ring around it, they will hatch wigglers that they move periodically and guard the 5x5 cm ring around it, they have free swimming fry and they guard a 10x5cm ring around it. It usually leaves so much space for the...

So, a bolivian ram in a community setting?

Hi I have four (had five) bolivian rams in a 120x50x60 cm with 13 sterbai corydoras ( had those for a year, some year and a half prior to the b-ram), rummynose tetra, ember tetra, otocinclus and now newly pearl gourami. My b-rams regularly pair up, spawn, guard and I had no loses of any fish...

Needing Help Deciding on What to Put in 6.6g/25l Tank! (see post #27 for NEW information on poll)

Weell, hard to say. First of I waited around 6 months for mine to arrive, cause they are not sold captive bred, they are sold wild caught and they have to come from thailand only in some part of the year ( think spring) when they are caught. Second they are super super super tiny, your usual...

    Clown killifish tank

So, one of the fry colored up and is clearly a male. Given I gotten the adults in the middle of august, the fry must be around 3 months, not more, so it is good to know when they color up

Needing Help Deciding on What to Put in 6.6g/25l Tank! (see post #27 for NEW information on poll)

I have three pairs of clown killifish in a slightly larger tank, 56x25x36 and they work well but sometimes the male will chase a female or female another female all over the whole lenght. I would not have a problem with a trio in your 25 liters, dense plants, LOW flow and a cover glass. No need...

    What will appreciate thick moss

I know I most likely asked before but anyways. My asian tank has a super thick moss "wall" and initially I thought it would be used for cloud mountain minnow spawning, but it is not, if yes, the fry dont survive the high flow. My other idea was that the hillstream loaches might use this and the...

Can't find bamboo shrimp for 2 days

In the beginning, my bamboos hid, they also molted ( due to water chemistry change when you brought them in) and took like a month for them to be fully comfortable But yeah, same with amanos, I added them a year back and I thought no survived, and now I have amanos always carrying and large than...
