    Restocking my tank

Harlequin rasboras get pretty big, so I would find something that would still make the tank slightly understocked, but also seem special. a pair of honey gourami would be nice since they have different colors that contrast with the rasboras. dwarves would be a problem because of the genetic...

    Strange white mucous on swordtail

I think the fish mightve scraped itself, because of many reasons 1. the fish was eating this giant piece of grass that it pulled yesterday. The giant vallisneria was already rotten and was probably itchy or something for the fish. 2. no other fish have it, and because of the recent waterchanges...

    Strange white mucous on swordtail

Hello, there is this strange white mucous and it seems that skin or mucous is peeling off? details: the 3rd and 4nd day before this I did a 50 percent water change because i just released my quarantined fish in the main tank. This fish is here for a long time already, so I'm confused why it...

Anyone keeping a tank of colorful native US fish

In the US, it's mostly the colder places and the hotter places that have beautiful small fish. I can barely even find small fish where I am!

Anyone keeping a tank of colorful native US fish

I think it's still warmer at home for them than naturally outside, because of the heater(A/C). but perhaps that small change is enough for them to think its winter

Anyone keeping a tank of colorful native US fish

The rainbow darters and many other fish need an induced cold winter period, however the flag fish don't really need it. These would maybe be harder to keep than your common tropical fish, but I think it's not a bad idea

API tap water conditioner vs. API aqua essential

huh, that's so weird, when I did a google search it was so different. The calculations were simple enough, I just think it is the source that is different. 1 per 5 == 5 per 25(results from petco) and 5 per 30(from post 10 amazon)

API tap water conditioner vs. API aqua essential

apparently a drop is 0.05 ml... so 2 drops per 1 gallon

API tap water conditioner vs. API aqua essential

I think more API is required. Just by quick calculations, 1 ml for 10 Gallons for prime, and for APITWC chloramine, it is 2 ml for 10. however there are many different sources so I'm still not entirely confident.

    fish stuck in rock stressed?

thanks! He's completely recovered already. now that I look back on it, i dont think he was completely stuck but rather trying to reach something under a rock, and just a little wedged under it

ID of plant growing in pond

most aquarium submersed plants look different emersed and then even more different when matured emersed. hmm, that is strange, but also nice. I like the little flowers. I remember this plant having tiny and purple flowers however... this image(online) seems to be the best

    fish stuck in rock stressed?

yes, I just touched the fish and he darted out himself. It's been a while now and he seems totally fine. still a bit skittish and doesn't hang out with his "wife" for the time being. normally they are a pair and follow each other around, they are less skittish in pairs

ID of plant growing in pond

Hello, i have a small tropical pond outdoors and there is a plant that has been growing very well INFO: the dried seed pods are not the same plant. they are the stalk from Giant Water Plantain. This is either some sort of native Ludwigia species, or emersed Rotala Rotundiflora. the stem is...

    fish stuck in rock stressed?

Hello, while I was feeding today, I found that a large xiphophorus male got trapped under a rock with some roots. I thought it was dead at first so i tried to pull it out, and then he suddenly snapped and darted across the whole tank. Now he is not trapped anymore, but does not seem to be...

how to make Green Water without fertiliser

i think that fertiliser would need nitrogen, which the one I use does not have a lot of. However, the rot and mulm from fish tanks can make up for the loss of nitrogen

Is it worth emptying a tank to get rid of snails?

it probably won't work unless you simply get a new tank and restart. and you probably will get snails from a bag of new fish or plants. even if you don't completely sanitize your arms or something, the eggs will drop into the new tank and infest it the best option is to wait it out and feed...

Can I sneak my baby jumping spider on a plane?

as long as you're not from ✨california✨ you can't take anything living in california, but you can take everything out... or the other states don't really mind it. if you're from here, the seed disguise wouldn't work since they don't allow that jk it's probably not a good idea, unless you are...

    Ugh, duckweed

hmm, i think full sun might be the reason. it murders duckweed, is the duckweed white when it dies? you can get a small container under shade and see how it does. since you want it for food, it's best to have a shallow container under a tree. they grow fast even in shade. put some pest snails in...

    Ugh, duckweed

hello! is the water stagnant or slow flowing? how much sunshine is there? duckweed likes slow flowing water, but not completely stagnatn, and also part shade to full shade rather than sun azolla tolerates much more sunlight, and it doesn't like flowing water.

Is there such a thing as too much space for a fish?

personally adding a smaller shoal like 8 to 10 for me is more controllable, since my tank is very understocked and I don't want the cycle to be ruined.

Is there such a thing as too much space for a fish?

hello! when I upgraded my tank (57 or so L) to a 283 L tank, I only had around 5 fish, which were livebearers. For guppies, large tanks are totally fine, and a 90L will be pretty active with just 3 or 4 of them. however for tetras you need more than a "few", I usually get 8 and then 4 more later...
