Thanks, yeah I guess I have been. Haha. When I got my tank delivered I wasn’t aware of any of this so it was a slight set back. But the end is in sight! Fingers crossed tonight could be the full water change and planting.

Yes they were very helpful as always 🤓 so now that I have learnt that low ph slows the cycle down / prevents it from working, am I correct in thinking that I need to test again in 24 hours (around 6pm tomorrow) and “IF” 🤞 I have 0 ammonia and 0 nitrite… is it water change time OR do I then add...

    Almost ready for fish...

Yes I think he said to leave the Java in its pot. Anyway, I will take them all out and attach the Java using fishing wire, really looking forward at this point to just putting even the plants in haha. Iv been staring at water for over a month haha.

    Almost ready for fish...

Yes the shop owner explained about attaching the Java fern. I think a bit of fishing line is safer/cheaper. He did say to keep it in its pot. So do I need to physically remove the other from their pots and plant stem by stem ?

@Essjay @jaylach @CaptainBarnicles After adding the 2.5ml to the tank exactly 24 hours ago and again boiling water / correct measurements etc you can see that I still have nitrite and ammonia I’d say 1ppm on both (more like 1.5)

Ok that’s great. Presumably the plants will be okay if I am adding ammonia? So… Test the water for zero zero Then empty 95% of water Then add plants and decor Then fill back up carefully Then on Wednesday feed with 0.8ml ammonia Then Saturday fish 🐠 Is that okay

    Almost ready for fish...

I think I will probably go for cardinal tetras. I group of tetras is definitely my starting point. Due to what has been said about the weak immune systems of neon tetras due to over breeding etc

As a whole, would you suggest ordering online as opposed to the local aquatic store ?

    Almost ready for fish...

What kind of other tetras do you mean? I have seen that you can get them in different colours I know they like to live as a group, does the colour matter ? So is 12 neon tetras just the same as 6neons and 6 cardinals ?
  35. 777james777

    Almost ready for fish...

They have a very large variety of plants! There’s so much more to this hobby than you think! I think I just need to make a note of all the easy plants to look after then pick an amount of plants I want and then order them all at once
  36. 777james777

Thank you. As I live in the UK buce plants may be a bit far!
  37. 777james777

    Almost ready for fish...

@Essjay Thank you once again for all of this. I see, so I will go with the neon tetras over the guppies then due to the soft water. I think it was advised / decided that I would be looking at getting 15 of these as they like to be in groups. So really what I need to do is have a look at which...

What are the root tabs and how do they work? I have had mixed reactions about "amount" of fish to add in one go. How come you did it this way?

Okay so I wanted to do a summary of were I am up too. All being well I am in the final stages of my fishless cycle and its time to start thinking about the last 3 things. - Plants - Ornaments - Fish (I have asked a few of these questions before but they are lost in threads) My tank is 160...
