    Hello from Minnesota

Careful with the co2, is not good for the fish. I know co2 was all the rage back in the day, but I think liquid fertilisers have since come a long way. Nice tank.

Do Rainbow Sharks And Balla Sharks Mix

This thread is 16yrs old and still going strong. The first time i saw Bala Sharks was over a curry in the local Indian restaurant. It was the opposite of relaxing viewing. The fish seemed twitchy and nervous. Obviously we know why. I think the tank I saw them in was 3 foot.

Best filter for fry only tank

Tank is 24 litres, fry would be only 2 or 3 weeks old from being free swimming. Cichlids. I've seen these filters with the sponge out in the open and it blows bubbles straight up. But do these need a separate air pump? What's my best options please so fry don't get sucked into the filter, but...

    Heater Issue

Lovely tank. I was always under the impression dojo loaches are cold-water fish?

    Sparkling gourami in 10 gal

If the 10 gallon stays empty for a while just keep the filter cycled with ammonia and have test kits to hand.

Fish spitting out food + stringy Poop

I'm not sure what to suggest with spitting out food, but there is a good thread on here about the stringy poo, although white, not dark poo, so keep waiting on other responses to your query here https://www.fishforums.net/threads/what-to-do-if-your-fish-has-stringy-white-poop.466276/

    Sparkling gourami in 10 gal

If in doubt, why not put them in the bigger new tank? That would sort out all the debate on whether 10 gallon is too small for a group of the gourami? You could relax then and enjoy these beautiful fish 🙂

    Clown killifish tank

Is there any best Killifish for a 20 gallon tank that already has 10 neon tetra in? Just neon tetra. Also, how much do they jump?

Fish API Test Kit Ammonia Question

On top of everything else you have discussed. I have had my share of false positive readings with API liquid ammonia tests giving occasional 0.25ppm readings. Even in flourishing, and heavily planted tanks. That might not be what's happened with you, but worth keeping in mind.

I've noticed a pattern with you. You are a bit sour.

Crack in new tank- please answer ASAP

I've been reading some of your threads. You are trying so hard on that limited budget to do the right thing and get a nice set up with healthy fish. I for one am really rooting for you.

    Okay, thanks for additional information.

Having an issue with my salt and pepper Corys .

Thank you for taking the time. You stated that 20 ppm Nitrate is usually the high end limit for "most" fish. Some fish are probably more susceptible than others. I don't have sources or evidence to return to you or Byron to be fair. I just remained far from convinced that telling someone that...

    Tetra swimming weird

That's going to be a really useful video for people on here that know more than me about ID of a disease/strange behaviour. You might already be prepared, but from what I see, have euthanasia in mind, but I don't know enough to start suggesting that. There are people who will know more than me...

Nitrates at 20ppm is too high? Any supporting evidence for that? If there is, I would be interested. If you have time, or the source.

    Tetra swimming weird

Are you able to take a video by any chance? That will give extra context as to the fish's movements/swimming.

    Cardinal Tetra lumps

Hi All, Got a friend who I will help sign up to this forum this week. In the meantime, they are really worried about this Cardinal Tetra. I can get more details tomorrow for you if needed. This is what I know; - 6 Cardinals with a male Betta in a 19 litre - Soft water, running at 75 F -...

Great suggestions, thank you. My water supplier uses chloramine.

    Chlorine test kits

Hi, Does anyone include these in their arsenal? Is it likely true that some, or even all, water providers will occasionally treat tap water with much higher doses of chlorine than normal, but still within the legal maximum limit for human consumption? Be it chlorine or chloramine? Would our...

    Keeping a fishless tank cycled

This link is really helpful @Essjay and @TwoTankAmin - I would not have considered changing any water during an actual cycle. It makes sense that there may be elements other than nitrate reduction that could help keep the tank well cycled in the absence of fish. Thank you both.

    Keeping a fishless tank cycled

Hi, I have a tank with brand new filter media that has cycled in 4 to 5 days using https://www.tropco.co.uk/index.php?cPath=129 When I say cycled, I mean it has reduced 2ppm Ammonia to 0ppm Ammonia and 0ppm Nitrite within 24 hours. In fact, it has done this twice now, to rule out ammonia...

    Low light plants

Hello mate, Blimey. You have been in the wars. Not comparing as such, but twice I've had bruised (not broken ribs). Once, from going over the handlebars of a mountain bike, at speed, on a normal road surface (feet got tangled in loose brake cable, my bad), and once in a fight. Both times, I...

    Low light plants

Your statement might be true, but because of the first sentence, this is potentially a bit misleading if other posters join the discussion, and don't read my other posts. I did mention in my first post about maybe relying on ambient levels of light in the room, I am now coming away from that...

    Low light plants

Thank you for the replies. I'm researching options where I don't have too much invested in plants. I know that sounds lazy. I can get carried away, and overly obsessed sometimes with anything fishkeeping, and then find it stressful if things start failing (I know, can't have it all our own...

29.5 Gallon fish tank - Amazonian inspired

The only thing I can think of, is that it could collect debris, turn brown and potentially smell, depending on how much organics it collects. Then you may have the hassle of having to remove and change it. None of these issues maybe significant though.

    Low light plants

Hi, I was wondering what, if any, plants are the most likely to manage with low light. I'm talking about lighting levels ranging from just the ambient lighting levels in a room with a large window, to levels of an LED aquarium light providing roughly 50% of the normal lighting intensity you'd...

    Dojo loach

Brilliant! Nice to meet you. Thank you. How you describe them, is exactly how they seem to behave in the LFS, and I'm thinking if they are that active and social in the LFS, then I can't wait to get them into a proper, homely set up. I'd be aiming for a 50% water change per week as a minimum...

    Dojo loach

This seems to be the majority opinion, as I've been posting on some other boards as well. I'm not going to include dither fish, which I think is the best move, because I'd be purchasing fish I don't really want anyway, and if I get the set up and conditions on point for the loach, then the...

    Dojo loach

Thank you @Wills and @Ichthys I wasn't aware that there are two different species. Thanks. I think I will go for the finest of sands then. Do you think the substrate colour matters much? I did read somewhere that dojo loaches are quite "messy", and so was wondering if darker sand might be good...

    Dojo loach

Also known as weather loach. Scientific name misgurnus anguillicaudatus. I've been studying them at various fish stores, and reading up on them. Generally, this is what I've found. I wondered if anyone with more experience can comment or help me answer some of the questions? Tank size required...

    Badger's 150g Rio Negro/Orinoco Flooded Rain Forest

Brilliant! Thanks loads for taking the time. I know that in the UK, we have a lot of oak and beech. I will look into ash. Driftwood is insanely expensive in the LFS, so your advice will definitely help.
