    What tank should I get?

Depends on you really, but I would use a dirted substrate capped with dirt, around 2-4 inches of dirt, and 1-2 inches of cap. Make sure the dirt is pure dirt, and the cap can be gravel, sand, and anything that will cover up the dirt without being dirty itself. As for plants, I would say go crazy...

    What tank should I get?

I'm not sure as I don't use those branded ones, all of mine are custom-made by us. But I will say, the bigger the better. it'll be easier to work with and more forgiving too, the more the water the less severe the fluctuations... Also I would recommend to get it heavily planted

    1 fish dying each day

That should be fine, you have livebearers and they prefer a little harder water, do you have a picture of the tank? is it planted?
  10. Jacob the tank keeper

Always loved keeping fish, but new to the hobby :)

Welcome! As what they mentioned, there are some risks... I think the female might be stressed out from the quick-moving fish and get stressed. But I think it's possible. You can try introducing a female and thoroughly observing their behavior. Are the barbs bullying the female? Is the female...

Change of plans, need help stocking

Oh alright, but I am pretty sure no one here offers that service... We don't really test waters here, unless it's for drinking water maybe we can test for that, but I'm not really sure what they include in those and they're pretty expensive... (Also we own a petshop, we don't do those services)

So I can't find it anywhere, so I'll have to test it myself... But I don't have a test kit on hand so I might buy myself one

    Extremely tiny "Java fern"

So I just bought this online labeled as "Java fern," but it's tiny and I'm not sure if it's even aquatic. Can anyone ID this? I know the seller is legit cus I have bought terrestrial moss from them before for my terrarium.

New tank aquascape and new plants

Change of plans, need help stocking

I didn't want to revive it, the tank I was asking about was 45 gals, this time I got it to 55 gals if that makes a difference... I'm not exactly sure about the water, but our water here is pretty neutral. I can also mix in some rainwater or RO if needed. What other fish can I add? Or is this...

June 25, 2023: I removed some driftwood and gave the tank a 60% water change to stop the tannins from going overboard I also added more floaters to the tank and removed some hornwort and guppy grass.  June 27, 2023:  This is the tank as of today, more floater growth   This is a...

So I can't get a 4ft for space reasons, best I can do is a 55 gal 36 x 20 x 18. I have 2 male adult angels that are besties, always together. The female I introduced to them got killed... I can get more adult angels as I know breeders. I got 7 Congos I'm also planning on adding, I can get more...

trying to learn... are you up for a civil discussion on Lucky Bamboo???

Well to sum it up, emersed are aquatic plants grown on land, (This makes it so that they grow faster) but with the downside of having to transition. Depending on the type of plant, the transition might be little to nothing, or completely changing shape, color, and size. they also may melt/die...

trying to learn... are you up for a civil discussion on Lucky Bamboo???

I'm glad you think that, I was afraid of being called stupid... Anyways, I'll try to do some research, maybe tanks with Co2 have bamboo doing better than tanks without, that's how it works for most emersed to submerged plants I think

trying to learn... are you up for a civil discussion on Lucky Bamboo???

Mine only took 2 months. That's why I'm amazed at how long you kept yours. I also read about people successfully keeping them underwater, that's also why I'm trying it out again. Maybe how stable it is also matters, I'm trying one with healthier roots, and overall looks healthier. Maybe it might...

trying to learn... are you up for a civil discussion on Lucky Bamboo???

That's a bit cruel... But yea, stop getting plecos! I do think the tiny bristlenoses are cute though... Anyways, I personally kept bamboos in my tanks in different environments, now, the ones with the tops going out of the water of course did very well, more than doubling the leaves. The ones...
