    African dwarf frog

I think this is where people differ, some people say 5g is OK for 2, I would say minimum 10g myself. But I also feel like 3 is the minimum I would want so then again I'd be aiming for 15/20g. Sand definitely for substrate as they aren't the smartest and can ingest gravel. They like hanging about...

    African dwarf frog

I would say it's better to get more so a 10g may be too small. They're quite social little guys and prefer company of their own kind. I have 5 in a 30g along with some cories, they do really well in there. You could probably get away with 2 max in a 10g but would need to be really on top of...

🐶 POTM Seisage - May 2024 Pet of the Month Winner

Congrats @Seisage and Soup for representing the ADF's, now I'm thinking I should've entered mine and they could've faced off!

    Flowerhorn issue

I'm not an expert on fish disease but do you have a picture for others to see? Have you tried increasing water changes or any medication at all since previous post?

    Two aquarium questions

I would try some floating plants like dwarf lettuce, and much bigger water changes. I have the same size tank (almost) and I do about 60-70% weekly. More effort but easier to keep the nasties at bay.

    Gravel or sand

I prefer sand as for me it's easier to keep clean than when I had gravel in an old tank, and I keep cories so it's more suitable anyway for the fish I have. Any play sand or specific aquarium sand should do the trick, just depends how much your budget is really!

    Neem Oil

I just found this online, appears it is toxic to bunnies https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/3419203/

Did anybody ever used this ?

Any time ammonia is showing it's water change time. Things like Prime can "neutralise" ammonia spikes for a short period but it's just a band aid and really water changes are the best fix.

I think my pygmies are getting ready to spawn?!

Just went to have a look at the tank but can't see anything, they're still pretty active, maybe there will be some spawning soon. Tbh I'm just happy they're happy enough to even think about it, I've never bred anything before so if it works great but if nothing happens, that's also fine!

I think my pygmies are getting ready to spawn?!

What do the eggs tend to look like?

I think my pygmies are getting ready to spawn?!

Yep this is what they've been doing, will have to have a look for eggs later and see if there are any. I think my ADF's might get them all but we'll see! I have some Indian almond leaves in there but can always add more.

I think my pygmies are getting ready to spawn?!

Just sitting by my tank having my morning coffee and my pygmies are more active than I've ever seen them! They're chasing each other around so am assuming this might be spawning behaviour? My other cories in the same tank are acting as chilled as ever so just seems to be the pygmies. Anything...

    Lost second fish

You can find places that sell RO water - search spotless water as an example, they may have one near you. I realised my water was harder than I thought and I'd bought fish more suited to soft water so I buy 2x25 litres each week for my water changes, costs a couple of £. It's not ideal but I...

My Beautiful Bettas and Addiction to Neocaridina Shrimp

Your bettas are beautiful, especially the pinky/purple one. No idea re names as I tend to just give mine a nickname that then becomes their name lol. My boy is pretty aggressive and doesn't even tolerate snails so he just chills in his own tank, I have always heard that males will kill females...

    Wacky pH from crushed coral

Your pH level seems pretty good for a betta tbh, I wouldn't worry about trying to raise it any higher
  16. L

    Water parameters

Your pH is quite high, you could try adding some botanicals to help reduce it across all tanks.
  17. L

    Fish recommendations?

You can Google your water hardness by checking your supplier's website. I personally wouldn't add a betta to a community tank without a backup plan, potentially one gourami if suited to your parameters but that's probably it.
  18. L

    Cleaners

Yes please don't add females to the betta tank, you'll have a bloodbath on your hands, and it is already stocked enough for a 5g. Male and female bettas don't live together they only "meet" to breed. Tank maintenance is up to us, yes some things can help but we have to strike the balance. Agree...

Can i get on top of snails

I don't mind a few of them but agree that the best option is to reduce feeding. The less that's lying around the less there is for snails to munch on!

She has one but doesn't use it

    Hoping I don’t become my mother as I age…

My mum is similar, has knee issues but refuses to do any physiotherapy or exercise because it "hurts" and expects surgical miracles without putting any work in during the rehab phase. Just relies on painkillers. Can barely get up and down the stairs at home but for some bizarre reason decided to...

    Red tailed shark

A cursory google seems to suggest just keep the one due to their aggression. I only really deal with little peaceful guys so that's as far as my knowledge goes! Edit - did some more reading and they sound like a pain to deal with! Striking fish but sounds like too much drama lol.

Are any of these any good n worthy ? Or ai should just do water changes ?

I would save your money, keep up with water changes any time you have ammonia or nitrite during the cycle, and once the tank is cycled get into a regular routine of water changes regardless of what tests say.

    Lethargic betta not swimming

I'm not an expert but if he was fine before adding the crushed coral and using the Fritz I would try removing the coral and doing another like 90% change using the seachem again. Hopefully he is okay!

    Algaefix-Death-WC Q

I would say you need to figure out the reason for the algae and address that as even using chemicals it was just return if the initial cause isn't addressed. Try reducing the light, reducing nutrients and removing excess food. As a rule I would increase water changes permanently, only taking out...

    Accidental temperature rise

Yeah when I saw it I panicked a bit! Luckily it was "only" near the max for an hour or so, could've been much worse. Might be time for a new heater where I can see the markings to avoid a repeat.
  27. L

    Accidental temperature rise

I accidentally turned the temp up on my 30g during a water change, I noticed last night it was sitting at 27/28°C. The tank has cories and ADF's so not ideal at all, it would've been like that for about 36 hours give or take. I tried to turn it down, but unfortunately the temperature markings on...

My roommate has 3 peppered cory catfish

I'd pop them in the 20g, they'll be happier as a bigger group with your albinos and bettas don't always take kindly to sharing!
  29. L

    Urgent question

Yeah be prepared for lots of water changes while the cycle fully establishes, it's a pain but you will get there! You'll also get to know how much food is enough in time so don't beat yourself up too much, reduce it and see how it goes, can always up it if needed.
  30. L

    Endler/Guppy Hybrid

I feel like with bettas they generally prefer to be alone, that said I previously kept one with my ADF's and he was absolutely fine. The one I have now I can't even put a snail in with him because he will attack it! I think as long as you keep a close eye and are ready to act if there is any...

    Upgrading to 112l

Been several months since I updated this thread, I posted elsewhere but I had an outbreak of some kind of parasite in the tank, as a result I had to move the frogs out into a backup tank while I medicated the fish. I lost two pandas during the process but all other fish made it through. I lost a...

This tropical fish hobby can be a hard watch

While the levels are 0 you don't necessarily need to change but if youve had a death a water change may be helpful. 50% or higher is usually recommended as if you're only removing 25% you're leaving 75% of any existing ammonia etc.
  37. L

This tropical fish hobby can be a hard watch

It may just be bad luck/bad genetics etc, but do some extra water changes over the next few days just in case. You've mentioned ammonia and nitrite above but not nitrate, have you checked that? Your pH is also quite high for the fish you have.

    Byron Hoskins RIP

Rest in peace Byron, I only knew you virtually but you provided me with excellent advice when I first joined here and didn't have a clue what I was doing. A real fountain of knowledge.
