Got some pics of some of the fish that I couldn't save. I've left the remaining fish in the QT tank to hopefully recover, I'm not confident they will all make it. It's night time here now so I can't keep messing with things. I'll test the water in the main tank in the morning and post results.

Thanks, I didn't test before I added the buffer but I'm sure it would've been 7 as there's no reason for it not to have been.

That was RO water where I'd added a little seachem buffer just to reduce pH slightly, it hadn't gone in the tank at that point.

I think you're right, I just don't know what caused the spike in pH. I think it must've been my mistake, that's the only explanation. I use seachem equilibrium to remineralise.

I've put the RO water from my second post in the tank, put the survivors back in and the cories are all extremely lethargic again. I've again taken a litre of water out of my 6gal and scooped them all out and now they're fine. I don't understand what's going on, nothing else has gone into this...

@Essjay No I prepared it myself. There's only a couple of scenarios I can think of - 1. Problem at the RO facility (unlikely) 2. I've accidentally added alkaline buffer instead of acid buffer and increased the pH 3. Problem with the container I'm using, but these containers never have chemicals...

Not adding anything that raises the pH, although when I test it's usually about 7.4ish, will test tomorrow morning. No nitrite showing up when I test either.

Thanks, I would usually ask my partner but he's gone to a festival so am home alone. We're in a flat so can only use buckets to do changes unfortunately. Just the way it goes! I'll update after I test tomorrow, hopefully the additional prime will help (and also give my back a rest!).

Luckily I only have sand substrate so hopefully it will get better from here. I'm a bit cautious of doing too big a change in the 30gal as I got some shrimp a few months back and I know they can be quite sensitive so am sticking with around 50%. I can't find the baby shrimp any more so not sure...

Keep an extra close eye on the ammonia and nitrite as you've increased the stocking. From your description it sounds like they've gone straight into the tank without quarantine so you'll have to be vigilant for any illnesses that may pop up.

Are they in the same tank or separate?

I would get them back in ASAP, but get lots more plants to break up territory areas for each one to diffuse any potential issues.

I think a lot of it will be about time and patience. You're essentially doing a fish in cycle now, so lots of large water changes, potentially even daily until your test results for ammonia and nitrite are 0. I'm not sure how many fish you have left now but they've been through a lot with these...

Mine recognise the pipette I use and come up but they're not brave enough to chill in my hand!
