    Fin rot salt treatment procedure

Thank you! I just saw your thread a while ago, hope your boy makes a full recovery. I think I've got a bit more than fin rot going on but not sure...

    Fin rot salt treatment procedure

Unfortunately I can't find my betta anywhere after coming home from work. Considering it's a small tank (6g) he's found some good hiding spaces among all the plants. I'm not going to stress him out by pulling things apart, so I've added 2nd dose of meds. If I can't find him tomorrow I may have...

Fish ulcer, can anyone give advice

Big regular water changes will help them have happy lives, especially as your tank is on the smaller side so more susceptible to swings in parameters. People only ask questions in order to be better able to help you help your fish, there's lots of knowledgeable people here (not me lol) who can...

    Fin rot salt treatment procedure

I'm not saying salt discussion isn't on topic overall but felt the issue relating to my specific betta may have been getting diverted, perhaps a more general discussion on the benefits of salt is best for a separate thread? I dosed as per the API instructions and advice of others on here as I...

Frequent fish deaths - advice needed!

Depending on your room temp you will probably need a heater (especially at this time of year!). I have found in recent months that the frogs I've had have been more sickly compared to previous ones. Not sure if it's a wider issue or if I've just been unlucky. Never had to deal with chytrid...

Frequent fish deaths - advice needed!

So when I had to do this I actually contacted the manufacturer of the medication for advice, for the meds I used they recommended keeping the frogs out for a month, I think I stretched it to 6 weeks to be sure I'd done enough water changes to get rid of any remnants. If your frog is a juvenile...

    Fin rot salt treatment procedure

I followed the instructions on the bottle, if anything I was conservative with the dose to account for the decor. No carbon in the filter, it's just a sponge filter. I'll check him later and try to tempt him with some food.

Frequent fish deaths - advice needed!

Just to add if you do end up needing to treat the tank for something like worms or other intestinal parasites you are likely going to have to move the frog out as a lot of medications for fish are toxic to frogs. I used to keep fish and frogs together and it worked well in a peaceful tank until...

    Fin rot salt treatment procedure

Getting back on topic slightly ;) the medication arrived last night so I dosed the tank. Unfortunately he's hiding again this morning, he was very active yesterday but I can barely coax him out today. I have to leave for work shortly but will check on him later when I get home before adding the...

    Cory’s randomly dying

Not sure how big the tank is but generally maintenance would involve at least a 50% (ideally more) water change each week. Try larger more regular water changes to see if that makes a difference.

Here's a pic of him this morning.

Do you have any pictures of the affected fish? What is your water cleaning procedure?

    Fin rot salt treatment procedure

The good news is that he seems to be much more himself this morning. He was out and about when I got up and has eaten lots of pellets. His swimming seems to be normal touch wood. The fin looks just as bad but I was expecting to find him in much worse condition this morning based on how he looked...

    Fin rot salt treatment procedure

Sorry a further update. He's come out but his swimming is very erratic, I'm thinking there might be something neurological going on. At times he appears to swim normally but then he starts jolting almost as if he's being shocked or is doing the fish equivalent of sneezing. He'll do this several...

    Fin rot salt treatment procedure

Also not to be too morbid but if he does pass what's the best thing to do with the tank if there is some sort of pathogen in there?

    Fin rot salt treatment procedure

Okay thank you, will do a 10% change now. I can't even find him in the tank atm so he has taken himself off somewhere, worries me how quickly he's going downhill. I don't want to stress him by pulling apart the tank to look for him.

    Fin rot salt treatment procedure

An update: I did a routine water change today and added the required dose of salt, I think the fin rot is worse and it looks like there's also discolouration at the base of the fin which wasn't there before. Unfortunately he is also hiding all the time in a corner at the bottom of the tank so I...

    Fin rot salt treatment procedure

OK thanks Colin, hopefully it's not that but I'll report back if there is no positive change. And I'll keep trying to get a better picture of him! It's hard because he doesn't flare his fins very often so doesn't give me many opportunities!

    Fin rot salt treatment procedure

I've had him for almost a year, he was reported to be about a year old when I got him. He doesn't have a curved spine, I just caught him as he was turning around, I've attached another shot of him taken a few weeks ago before the issue started to confirm. It's my fault, I was dropping food at...

    Betta with Fin Rot

Sorry to hear this, I'm currently dealing with the same with my betta, here's my thread which may have some useful advice, although sounds like you've tried salt already: https://www.fishforums.net/threads/fin-rot-salt-treatment-procedure.494781/ What are your water parameters? Do you know if...

    Fin rot salt treatment procedure

This was the best picture I could get of the fin rot and one of his overall body so you can see the other fins aren't affected. I'm really bad at getting pics of him, even using food.

    Fin rot salt treatment procedure

Well I hadn't expected this topic to be so controversial! I'll keep the salt in for the next 10ish days and see how it goes. I'm not going to move him into a QT tank as he lives by himself anyway, if the plants suffer then I'll steal some from my other tank once I've diluted all the salt out...

    Fin rot salt treatment procedure

No worries! Just hoping it makes a difference, I know it's a relatively common problem in the fish world but it's not something I've dealt with until now.

    Fin rot salt treatment procedure

I don't use routinely, I had some left from previous use in an old tank and know it's a suggested treatment for fin rot. I heaped tablespoon is probably equivalent to the 3 level teaspoons I put in so I would say the dosage is about right?
  35. L

    Fin rot salt treatment procedure

Thanks Colin for clarifying. I wasn't sure if I needed to do daily water changes now or wait but this clears it up. I used teaspoons, the API dosage guidance says to use 3 teaspoons for every 5 gal - my boy is in a 6 gal so I played it safe and added 3.

    Fin rot salt treatment procedure

My betta has developed a mild case of fin rot on his dorsal fin, sorry I haven't been able to get a picture yet but I would say it's minor but obviously want to get it sorted. Other fins all seem to be okay. Normal procedure is a 70% water change weekly. I completed a water change yesterday...

    Fish died overnight. Need help!

Can you post your results? As Colin said, keep up with big daily water changes while the fish are showing signs of irritation. If something was irritating your own skin you'd treat it daily, it's a similar principle.

Horrible help at a hardware store

It's a shame someone has an attitude like that as ultimately it will likely lead to other customers ending up with unsuitable fish for their needs/wants. Good job you know your stuff and were able to correct her!

    Am I overstocking or understocking?

It doesn't sound overstocked, the only thing I would change is not adding the betta because of the gourami. If you want a betta and have space you could always set up a separate tank for one :D
