Two pandas with swim bladder issues

Final dose of medication added today :flex: I'm hoping that this has done the trick. I haven't seen the "main" panda for a couple of days but couldn't find any evidence of death when I cleaned the tank this morning so I'm hoping he will turn up! I haven't seen any flashing by any of the other...

Cories, dead tanks and other issues

I think a lot of this was covered in your previous thread re suggestions for food and potential worms: https://www.fishforums.net/threads/neon-tetra-mouth-virus-questions.491847/#post-4310839 What have you tried between the last posts on that thread and now? If you can get them separated and...

Identification and Advice for New Fish Additions in Quarantine Tank

I've nothing to add other than to mention you should ask for a refund from whoever has sent you these fish that you a. Didn't seem to ask for and b. Appear to be in poor condition.

    Abandoned, Abused Betta Spoiling

I'm sure he'd be more than happy in a 15 gallon :) Everything I have read re gourami and betta never ends well so just wanted to mention it to be safe.

    Abandoned, Abused Betta Spoiling

Gourami and betta shouldn't be kept together due to their territorial natures, I'd get him back in his other tank ASAP. I know more space sounds good but it could end in tears with those two as tank mates, which I know is far from your intention when you rescued him.

    Cory seems sick

What do you mean by getting sucked into the filter? Do you know what kind of filter you have, it could be overpowered for your tank and causing problems. Did you cycle the tank before adding the fish and do you know your current water parameters?

Two pandas with swim bladder issues

So today is dose 3 of the medication. I've been trying to watch the tank as much as I can when I'm home and haven't seen any more flashing. All the fish are feeding and I don't have any concerns about swim bladder or anything else, so fingers crossed I caught it in time. I'll continue with the...

I'm feeling discouraged about my pygmy cories.

You could always swap the substrate gradually, it's going to be a messy job either way, it's not something I've done so not sure what the best way to do it is! I actually have some julii cories (not sure if they might be false juliis tbh, there are a few similar looking ones) and they are...

I'm feeling discouraged about my pygmy cories.

What kind of gravel do you have? All cories need a sand substrate so that would be my first step. They do like to just chill on the substrate when they're resting so that on its own may not be a concern. Perhaps change out the gravel and see how they recover before getting any more. I think...

Please help - Betta needs urgent attention

Do you know the age of your betta? It may be that he's reaching the end of his natural lifespan. Also you mention that it's like he can't see his food, you could try using a pipette to drop the food right in front of his mouth to see if he can get it.

Female guppy not improving despite treatment

Is she pine coning? If so it could be dropsy, in which case euthanasia may be kindest.

    Water company replacing pipe

This is my water quality report, it doesn't mention pH, but I know my tank pH is generally about 6ish (haven't tested it for ages tbh), the water is pretty soft here. I can start slowly adding a little RO water from next week when I do my next water changes, that'll give me some time to read up...

    Water company replacing pipe

The work is taking place over 4 months, just checked their website and they plan to start on Tuesday 7th Feb and end some time in June. It's replacing an old pipe but doesn't say exactly when the switchover from old to new pipe will be.

    Water company replacing pipe

Thanks @Colin_T . I have access to RO water that we can buy locally as my partner is a window cleaner, if I was to use that would I still need an RO unit? I really don't have anywhere to store water long-term as we live in a flat but my partner has a 300 litre RO tank in his van so I could steal...

    Water company replacing pipe

I'll have a look, they just sent us a generic letter for now and said to contact them with any queries so I'll do that first and if I don't find anything I can ask via email. All I know is they said it'll take place between Feb and June this year so it's quite a significant period of time.

Lol definitely not 20, just 2 but I live in a flat so nowhere to store water unfortunately.

    Water company replacing pipe

My water company's sent us a letter saying they'll be replacing some old pipes in our area. My immediate thought was is this going to cause an issue for my water supply for my tanks e.g. chemicals etc. The work is due to take place over four months, I was thinking of emailing them but not sure...

    Advice please on tanks

I use an inch or so of sand with root tabs every few months and I dose with liquid fertiliser every time I do a water change (which I would do either way regardless of substrate). I think you'd be fine just adding a thicker layer of sand to what you already have and adding some root tabs. I also...

Two pandas with swim bladder issues

Well the saga continues, but hopefully a positive turn. The white panda now seems to be regaining some colour. I haven't been able to spend too much time checking out the tank this morning but am hoping this is a good sign.

Two pandas with swim bladder issues

Yeah I honestly can't tell any difference in behaviour at present, and positively they are all eating. I know the paleness isn't a good sign of course and am still worried about that one but realistically not sure what else I can do for him. I feel like keeping him in his normal environment with...

Two pandas with swim bladder issues

Oh gosh I hope it's not that! I'll be keeping a close eye and do have clove oil to hand just in case. Both this fish and the other one, who looked much worse, are both doing much better but I've only done one treatment of the fluke/parasite meds so far.

Two pandas with swim bladder issues

Y Yeah everything I've read doesn't fill me confidence about the colour loss. Weirdly the fish is acting normally - eating, active, fins seem fine etc. It completely threw me when I first saw it as I thought it was a new fish!

    I succumbed

I think your Big and my Zazu must be long lost cousins as their personalities are very similar! Zazu has started jumping out of the water at my hand the second he thinks food is coming and he also gets very annoyed when I accidentally destroy his bubble nest!

    Which fish should I choose???

A little algae here and there isn't a problem. I'm not sure what machine your friend is talking about but excess algae is usually caused by too much of something (light, nutrients etc) so it would always be preferable to treat the cause rather than just the symptoms if you did find yourself in a...

Two pandas with swim bladder issues

Well I was watching my tank this morning thinking that the cories all looked okay, including the main one I was worried about. However, I noticed this panda which has lost all its markings and is very pale. I think this is one of the ones that seemed to be affected by the swim bladder issues...

    Which fish should I choose???

First thing to do is check the water hardness in your area (you can find this on your water company's website). If you have soft water, go for fish that live in soft water and vice versa. People on here can help with some choices. You could try some easy growing live plants alongside some fake...

    Neon tetra mouth virus? questions

I'm sure if it was your substrate you would've noticed problems more quickly and if it had leeched anything bad into the water your other fish would likely be affected - but without a test kit you can't be certain. With the flakes, if you crush some in your hands and actually place it in the...

Two pandas with swim bladder issues

Update on the tank. The day I put the meds in I saw one of my pygmy cories flash against the substrate just once, haven't seen it since but am glad I did go down the medication route as there's clearly something bothering the other fish, even if it's not doing so routinely. The main panda (the...

    Neon tetra mouth virus? questions

I'm sorry to hear this. This fishkeeping stuff is a real minefield and like anything with animals, if they could tell us what's wrong everything would be so much easier!! You mention water restrictions but if there's any way you can increase the amount you're changing it may help. It's also...

    Neon tetra mouth virus? questions

This is not intended in any way as a personal attack so please don't take it that way, but I wonder if there is something more going on in your tank. Perhaps not in relation to this specific issue as that thread you linked suggests this might be a common issue, but you also mention potential fin...

    Neon tetra suspected worms

If you weren't able to quarantine the new fish before you added them and are now seeing deaths then the most likely guess (and I emphasise it's just a guess) is that the new fish may have introduced something to the tank. I don't know if the injury to the stomach indicates a parasite or not...

Two pandas with swim bladder issues

Thank you :) the medication arrived but have only just got home and it's 8pm here so am going to wait until tomorrow morning to put it in so that I can monitor the oxygen in the tank throughout the day.
