    Things Being This Way

I'm working from home, but things are starting to slow down. My two adult children are home from school for a while, not working. I'm trying to keep them occupied. Fortunately, we have plenty of food, money, and toilet paper. Getting kind of low on blackworms, though.

    Wow these poor fish

PETA does put the most negative spin possible on things, and then enhance it with exaggeration, hyperbole, and lies. PETA is opposed to any and all killing, usage, and interaction with animals.

    RES - with newts

Absolutely, positively not. The turtle requires warm water, the newts require heavily vegetated cold water- and the turtle will kill the newts, regardless.

    Crazed craigslist seller

If it was a retailer, I would agree. However, a private seller would not likely be selling it only to replace it with another.

Why is dying fish just an acceptable idea?

I've always felt that if one cannot accept any amount of animal death, then one should not participate in an animal-keeping hobby, particularly breeding. However, with most of us I think there is a certain amount of private sadness when we lose animals. If we shared that sadness, though, these...

    Cumberland Slider + Fish?

The turtle should be expected to eat any fish that it can catch and overpower. If you don't mind that happening, avoid the temptation to put large fish with a small turtle, as the fish will likely eat food intended for turtles. Years ago, I simply had to keep fish and turtles together. I had the...

    Members favorite animals

My main interest is reptiles and amphibians; fish are more of a side hobby. I often wonder how many fish keepers also keep herps, and vice versa.

    Active .vs. Non active members?

I check the forum regularly, but seldom post. So, speaking for myself as a relatively "inactive" participant of this forum- Fish are not my main hobby. I only have a couple of aquariums. The majority of the posts aren't that relevant to what I'm doing, and I don't have as much experience as most...

You might try Vallisneria. It grows fast and tall, and spreads out on the surface.

    Guppy breeding for profit

You may have to call more than one LFS to find a taker. I once tried to trade a surplus of superworms for plants at my LFS. The guy got extremely agitated with me. He wanted the superworms, but didn't want to give me anything, not even plants, in exchange. Very strange.

It sounds like they were collected from the wild. If so, what is your technique? It would take me hours to get that many using my methods.

    Scuds

I've collected them from time to time. If you feed them, they do ok. I've never had reproduction or even kept them for very long, mostly because I have lost interest after a while.

    Grass shrimp

Last summer, I caught a few native grass shrimp, sometimes called glass shrimp. They're in kind of an ugly tank, but I've managed to keep them alive on cory wafers. Does anybody else keep these? I'd appreciate tips on feeding, housing, breeding, etc.

    Fish regret

Creek chubs in my native tank. They are aggressive, active feeders, with appetites that cannot be satiated. They make it difficult to feed the other fish in the tank, who cower and hide when those chub monsters are feeding. I know I should remove them- feed them to my turtles- but just haven't...

    Looking for heater recommendations

They would, and I am expecting to get some fluctuation regardless of what I do. However many reptiles' gender is determined by the temperature at which they are incubated, so I'd like to control it as much as possible.

That I'm not sure of. I'm thinking of a basic chest cooler with 4-6 inches of water.

    Looking for heater recommendations

I'm looking for recommendations for aquarium heaters with precise temperature control. These are not for aquariums; these are for reptile egg incubators that I will be making. They won't need to heat a large volume of water, but will need to easily heat into the upper 80's. I am looking for...

TV watching....what service(s) do you use for your TV watching

I use the local fiber optics provider- that wasn't an option on your poll. I've tried the big cable and dish companies, only to have them try and stick it to me on billing- above and beyond normal price increases, for example, billing me for services I didn't order, and refusing to remove them...

    What's a good first lizard ?

I have kept many lizard species, and for ease of care, Leopard geckos and African fat tailed geckos get my vote. Leos are slightly easier to care for between the two, but fat tails are more docile and handleable. While bearded dragons aren't the easiest beginner lizard, if you are willing to...

I can't seem to keep Corys alive

I have a 35 hex tank that has been set up for about a year. It's planted, I have both undergravel filtration and a hang off the back. I have gouramis, black tetras, and lemon tetras. Zero ammonia or nitrites, regular water changes, and temps in the mid 70's. All of the fish are doing great...

    Aquaclear powerhead not working right

What kind of fish is this?

They are sunfish- they look like greens or bluegills. Sunnies are neat aquarium fish, but check your state fishing regulations about keeping them. They are generally regulated as game fish.

    Looking for filter recommendations

Do you think that gouramis would be aggressive with aquatic frogs?

I am looking for something that would live peacefully with my aquatic frogs. The species I will be working with will max out at about 2". I want fish that are too large for the frogs to consume, but that won't pick on the frogs either. I wonder if gouramis would be a good choice, and if so...

    Looking for fish suggestions

I really don't know what the water parameters will be. It is not set up yet. It will be more of a pond than an aquarium- it is a wooden structure with a pond liner. There will be plants and driftwood. A pond filter will be used. Since it will be designed for frogs, I think water parameters will...
