    Entry #20 It has been one full day since my African butterfly cichlids arrived. They are looking healthy and are exploring the tank which they own at the moment. I see the emergence blue speckles on some of the fish. Unfortunately the color doesn’t show up on my photo.

    Good idea. But just to be certain, we are looking at the same thing, I am referring to the white fuzz at the end of the piece of wood, and not the little white wormy things on the wood itself.

    I wish I had a microscope. I had to return it to the University after I closed my lab for retirement.

    I bought a piece of spider wood for my tank. I boiled it for 20 minutes, let it cool and then placed it in the tank. Today I see wispy white cotton patches attached to the wood. Is this fungus? What should I do? I already removed the wood from the tank.

    How do you slow down cherry shrimps breeding ?

    My orange pumpkin neocaridina are out grazing this morning. Breeding like crazy despite sharing the tank with Mollys, platys and endlers.

    In my 20 gallon long tank, I have three species of live bearers frolicking among Anubias, Amazon Sword and Corynewentii. One of the Corynewentii plants has given birth to a flower.

    Fed up with nitrates in my well water

    Now that I plumbed a nitrate filter into the sink I attach my python to I no longer have a nitrate problem. I only feed my fish Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

    Entry #17 Six Anomalochromis thomasi arrive Thursday. I performed a 40% water exchange today now that the tank is cycled and the nitrate levels were 25 ppm after several doses of ammonia. The tank is ready for guests after a quarantine.
