A few random pictures from the past week or so

If you are referring to post #3 the first one is known as nurii rosen pink line with a nurii luminous green next to it and the 2nd is just a plain nurii rosen maiden. I no longer inject co2; the aquariums are too large for me to deal with plants growing bonkers on co2. This is an old 40 i used...

A few random pictures from the past week or so

Just a couple - my largest male - bit of a bully; the auto light adjustment kind of washed the picture out - he is a bit darker with more intense red. This lady bred again: One of the mysteries for me is they clamp their tails when in breeding dress. The m. mirificus don't seem to do that.

Updated ID info, site, and art for everyone interested in Corydoradinae Catfishes!

Is his book any good - also i see nothing on tghe website that suggest it has the new classification. A sample page would be helpful. Never met the guy - i do see a his name a bit; a lot of these books have disappointed me - i have the cicihld atlas and the problem is that the details i want are...

Big new RO storage tank... wrestling with over fill control methods...

I use a float-valve which is what i think most people use. I use a well pump to move the water from the storage tank to other parts of the house. The well pump is pressure driven - open the valve - pressure drops and the pump comes on to maintain the pressure level; close the value the pressure...

Why Won´t My Yoyo Loaches Eat Bottom Feeder Pellets?

It could be unrelated; it could be the hillstream feels more comfortable with more fishes in the aquarium. One of the value of dithers with dwarf cichild for example is that when the dwarf cichild see the dithers swimming it creates an impression that things are 'safe' and without the dithers...

Why Won´t My Yoyo Loaches Eat Bottom Feeder Pellets?

Well in the OP case i would either keep the one yoyo or rehome it and not buy any more. I definitely would not buy one more as keeping just two is worse than just one. My aquarium is much larger of course but all the loaches pretty much socialize together - the yoyo are full grown and of course...

    New Babies!!!

Yea i know - and his kribs are quite nice looking. I was always amazed how carefully she watched them while they played in the sand... Almost human like even though it isn't.

    New Babies!!!

I'll be honest my problem with the pulcher was getting them to stop breeding since so many frys survived. Much easier these days where i have to struggle to keep frys alive (though it is a lot of work) ;)
  17. anewbie

    New Babies!!!

I will note that with my kribs i NEVER had to feed the frys; the parents always found something they would eat. It helps that the frys will eat plant matter and kribs are natively heavy plant matter eaters (they LOVE their salad ;) ) -- This is unlike my sa dwarf cichild where it is either hatch...

    Apisto’s meeting the neighbors

Females and male a. nijsseni will look distinctly different as adults. This is an adult male; note the colouring and lack of a black body mark which the females have. The male can have a mid body mark but he frequently turns it off and it is generally less distinct though when immature it is...

Why Won´t My Yoyo Loaches Eat Bottom Feeder Pellets?

Also don't be shocked if it takes a fish a couple of days to adjust to a new food; this is not unusual - a well fed fish can go several weeks without eating.

Why Won´t My Yoyo Loaches Eat Bottom Feeder Pellets?

The thing is that an adult yoyo is like 4 to 8 times the mass of the dwarf chain - not just longer but greater girth esp a female yoyo. One of my female yoyo is nearly the size of the largest clown loach (currently as the clown loach has a long ways to go in growth); my guess is that it is 6+...

Why Won´t My Yoyo Loaches Eat Bottom Feeder Pellets?

Well.... i have 6 yoyo and 12 clown loaches and 10 zebra loaches. While i agree they should be kept in a group i also think groups of mixed species works - of course it depends on the species. In this case these three species are capable of co-existing. The zebra is a bit of an outlier since it...

    Panda Garra and African Cichlids

The text recommends a group - i've always kept them in a group of 6 - besides when they fight it is epic. I mean 2 of them can get into it for a good 20 or 30 minutes at times.

Why Won´t My Yoyo Loaches Eat Bottom Feeder Pellets?

If young it will likely prefer flakes as it gets older it will be more open to tackle harder to eat food. I mean pellets are not the easiest thing for them to break apart; though once they have been soaking a while and begin to break down it might go after the bits and pieces. In general even...

    Cheap Tanks??

Petco is having their 50% sale.... what size do you want? I guess for two goldfishes you might want a 40B or larger. Cheap is of course a useless parameter as what is cheap to one person might be expensive for another..... so perhaps a better title or description might result in a more useful...

Curious why didn't you just install it yourself? Also are you sure the drives crash (external) and it wasn't a cabling issue. the number of times i've had sata and power cable come disconnected. Of course on the external drive you would have to open the enclosement to access the cables. Drives...

    Is my tank overstocked?

Definitely too many cory in that tiny space. Luckily cory in general get along but i'm not sure i'd put 13 pygmy in a 20 high much less 13 full size cory. Others have already commented on the platy; btw fundamentally platy are polar opposite of cory with regards to water requirement - i.e, platy...

Have they been changing stuff on the Pleco info as well???

I believe that younger fishes are more sensitive and require warmer temps then when they age; then there is the seasonal aspect and breeding. I would think at 81 degree young ones are going to have a harder time - also these are not social creatures. At best your veteran will ignore the new...

These two pictures show how plants grow at ec 25 over 4 month period: Another aquarium 500 when i set it up a year ago: 600 a month or so ago - for perspective you are looking through a 10 foot aquarium and seeing a 29 on the other side.
