    Black worm question

Maybe the a. thomasi though i suspect he would be happier with platy or guppy frys/youngsters. The a. pulcher isn't a big meat eater so i wouldn't push him in that direction. You just don't have the traditional heavy meat eaters most of your fishes are going to want salad or invertebrates...

This is my c. hastatus/green neon tetra aquarium: While it has around 12 green neon tetra; the problem with putting in leaves is they all end up under the leaves; this begs the question is it good put leaves in your aquarium ;) Also despite not seeing many it has around 20 hastatus. Luckily...

Can I sneak my baby jumping spider on a plane?

Yea you better check that spider daily for cancer; and if he gets cancer plan on chemo-treatment ;) Btw i saw a movie that showed what happens when spiders are exposed to radiation. They grow like 50 feet and eat people !

    Kribensis questions

I'll be honest my kribs never dug up my plants but they did dig this lovely nest under a piece of drift wood: One of the advantages of having decently deep substrate ;)

    What are you doing today?

This reminds me - when i was in college someone said they were going to get poppy seed cake and i thought it sounded disgusting because i think of poppy seeds on bagels (btw boston have fantastic fresh bagels if you get there around 6:45 when they take them out of the ovens); anyway it turned...

    Kribensis questions

They don't eat plants per sey at least mine never did. I'll admit a bit of bias as i just hate plastic plants personally ;)

    Kribensis questions

real plants work a lot better; esp with kribs as they eat a lot of plant matter.

I think i would suggest these critters: dario dario -> require live food shrimp - a million and one shrimps another beta but one of the more unusual ones - there are several i suppose but i never bother with beta. one of the smaller shell dwellers might work - not sure haven't kept them but i...

I'm sick and tired of people talking about the 'PH' a fish needs

I think in my crude and imperfect understanding it is more than stability; i think it is that buffering which holds the ion that raises kh. You can artificially change the ph (which is why i hate it when tools mention the ph) without fundamentally changing the water (injecting co2 is my favorite...

I'm sick and tired of people talking about the 'PH' a fish needs

No. The issue is that you can have low gh and not so low kh. The issue isn't ph but kh. Anyway my very finicky softwater fishes breed just fine: And I don't bother to measure their ph just their ec. These are said to require ph very low 5s to 4s to breed. Though just because someone claims...

I'm sick and tired of people talking about the 'PH' a fish needs

I fail to see with how this is related to using kh/gh instead of ph. If your kh is 5ppm and your gh is 6ppm your water is going to be very soft and acidic. If your kh is 300000ppm and your gh is 5ppm your water is going to be very alkaline. If your water is .... The problem is that kh/gh are...

    Sump - Question

Be sure to test it by turning out the power. Also there is virtually no benefit to putting it in the 40b; you can use a 40b as a sump by lining it with sponges (which are more efficient than bio media - here is a picture of what i am talking about...

    Sump - Question

First sizing is really recommended not absolute. The way a sump works is water flows from the aquarium to the sump - through the media in the sump and then back up to the aquarium - much like a canister filter so a sump wouldn't be 'in' the aquarium it is typically below the aquarium though in...
