    Panda Garra and African Cichlids

My 6 were fine in the 40B - but when i moved stocking changed so they ended up in a new tank - this was there old home:

    Panda Garra and African Cichlids

They were in a 40B; now they are in a 180. They are lively and human friendly; they frequently climb onto my arm/hand when i'm working in the tank. Luckily they don't find me very edible ;)

    Panda Garra and African Cichlids

Have you ever watched a panda gara fight; most entertaining. Can go on for hours if neither one backs down. Never saw any actual damage but the pair i had that would fight like cat and dogs took months to finally make up and get along (it was a group of 6 and i actually still have them - i think...

    Tropical Fish “Supermarket “

When i lived in Colorado boulder region, good old days, there were several fantastic petshops and today there are still quite a few really nice boulder region stores, but where i live today - nothing.

Yea i gave up on tr species of apistogramma unless it is a hobbist i trust; too many farmed fishes of poor health makes me depressed.

    Need Help Stopping P.Sacrimontis Aggression

You definitely want to use soft sand substrate and lots of large driftwood and rocks slanted on the driftwood. A few large leaves covering everything will also help. This will allow them to hide and be completely out of line of sight during the aggression phase. Also if they do pair up they will...

    Need Help Stopping P.Sacrimontis Aggression

How large is their current aquarium - er how long and tall and wide. rummy really need a long aquarium - with my kribs i had a few cherry barbs and they did fine but the schooler i had was kubotai rasbora which stay right below the surface.

    Need Help Stopping P.Sacrimontis Aggression

If they behave like kribs they will fight until a pair is formed; however they are strong pair forming and hte extra females will be toast. I've not owned them but my regular kribs (in a 40B) faught like cat and dogs for 3 weeks through-out the tank until they finally paired up and then they...

Will fish go up filter intake

Yea i have those - they don't last on an fx6.... HOWEVER on a 40B with a fluval 107 they should be fine. On an fx6 the intake force is just too strong over a long period of time. The 4x4x8 cube i use now (from swisstropical) does much better over long periods HOWEVER a 40b isn't large enough for...

Will fish go up filter intake

I use a large sponge from swiss tropical - i forget if it is 20 ppi or 10 ppi; not too expensive if ordering other stuff but otherwise a bit pricey with cost of shipping.

Will fish go up filter intake

The way a sponge can hurt the filter is if it restricts flow; this will cause more friction on the magnet driven propeller which can increase heat as well as reducing cooling from flow of water. A very fine sponge or one that is clog will reduce flow.

    Maybe it’s the Cory’s???

Also cory are an extremely poor mix with mating dwarf cichild; expect a lot of nastiness if mating behavior occurs. Also the induced stress of dealing with territory violations increase the likeliness of (a) shorten life span (b) bloat (c) diseases. There is a reason why people don't do this...

    Apisto’s meeting the neighbors

Excess females; sometime the female can be picky but i haven't run into that problem. Also you won't notice any real change until someone (acara or apisto) reaches sexual maturity. Once that happens then change might occur very quickly in terms of 'friendliness'. Last but least I don't know how...

    I need your opinion

While clown loaches are too big there are dwarf loaches (around 2 inches but rather skinny) and zebra loaches (around 4 inches and a bit thicker body); the zebra are very very passive but also out less during the day - dwarf loaches love to swim quite actively to the point of annoying slow...

    I need your opinion

I will note that over crowding is the fastest way to kill fishes and be aware what we think is over crowding is not always the same thing as the fishes consider as over crowding. In my 29 (the a. wolli tank) i have 9 fishes - 6 small dithers n. marilynae; i would only consider 4 more n...

    I need your opinion

What temp, kh, gh was the aquarium? Also there is a chance that the angelfish had a bacteria infection though 3 weeks should have been long enough to see any obvious issues. Did you do a water change in that 3 week period ?

    I need your opinion

What size is the tank and how do you know the water parameters are ok ? How long were the fishes in the aquarium before they started dying ? Did you add anything a day or two before they started dying (new fish, hard scape, new food, ...) ? How long has the aquarium been setup ?

Anyone bred L46 Zebra plecs - tank size

I'd love to spawn L206 but I don't ahve a dedicated tank for them; as for BN spawning; i wish there was a way to keep them from spawning. I had this wonderful fish - it was a very large male nannacara amolae. It would park above the bn's cave and wait there all day and all night and as soon as a...

    Apisto’s meeting the neighbors

While each fish is different typically Nijsseni like large territories - up to a square foot. They might recognize this isn't possible or they might insist to the best of their ability. Also that third wheel is gonna have to go to the other side of the tank or the top to be safe - again each...

    Sparkling Gourami, makes surprise visit

I picked up a group of cherry chocolate (Sphaerichthys selatanensis); they were around $10 each. Only real negative as far as keeping is they need very soft acidic water but otherwise a really nice fish. I keep them at ec 34. Oh they are said to require live food and the seller sold them fed...

    What i learned today:

Depends on the water; some water contains a lot of minerals and doing water change introduces fresh supply of minerals. In my case i'm using nearly pure water so almost no minerals are being introduced. Of course some plants do better in this environment than others; and i do occasionally (once...

    Apisto’s meeting the neighbors

    Apisto’s meeting the neighbors

You do know that Dan should not be sending these as trio; as they are not polygamous and will form pairs (becoming extremely) aggressive towards the third wheel. The only reason to buy a 2nd female is in case one female is a snob and decide the male is not acceptable mate. Of course this...
