    Washing new substrate pebbles

Totally agree. Fluval Stratum is on sale right now too at petco/petsmart for half price. Shrimp can do well in gravel too but I wouldn't use anything but a natural gravel and preferably tiny in size .5-2.0mm. I think larger gravel holds more detritus that doesnt get to the filters and fouls...

Hillstream loaches... who would have guessed there was so many varieties... ( I added some pictures )

Saddlebacks should have been called underwater boa constrictor with that pattern. Always admired that fish because of that pattern but didn't know it was considered a part of the hillstream family. Good thread

🐡 FOTM Vote Now - April 2024 Fish of the Month Contest Loricariidae (suckermouth) fish

5 year old 3.5" female L046 in a colony of 14. Housed in a 50 gallon tank by themselves. These fish are so hard to get good pics of and I'm a terrible photographer so apologies ahead of time. I coaxed her out with her favorite EBO softgran sponge. If you feed them, they will come...These...

I just found this 10g for sale for $35 here locally. Idk if this is helpful for your design purposes but I thought of you when I came across it.

    Cherry shrimp babies

Baby shrimp really need biofilm to graze on. Adults do too but it's even more important for the babies. So I 100% agree with what most have said about adding things from your established aqaurium. This video should help you out:

Whats your normal procedure when you have a fish death?

I agree with this and from the standpoint that my tanks are well established and have been running for a long time. In something newer it would definitely raise red flags and I would probably overthink it and do too much.

    45 gallon, about 2 weeks away from 1st fish…& as I’m adding fish…

Manacapuru's are amazing looking angels. I have always wanted some but the timing was never right. Get some, get some!!

so there are some plecos that are pretty territorial...

Breeding fish in general are aggressive so no surprise your alpha was driving away anything and everything. Most of the plecos I have had pay zero attention to the other fish. There can be some territorial assertiveness or maybe an occasional brush back over some food but for the most part...

What's this white anemone-looking thing in my tank?

Theres a ton of videos on youtube. Most everyone uses exactly what you have, 3%. They spot treat with a syringe in small doses and it works great for the algae. I guess it sucks oxygen from the tank so a lot of these guys are draining the tank down and spraying the algae and refilling it...

    Starter tank, 29g

The plants were coming in nicely on the 29g. The sand made a huge difference as well. Always loved neon's, just a great looking fish especially when there's a million of them together. Had gouramis before mixed in with angels, loaches, redtail shark, ottos, roselines, Cory's, few various...

Need suggestions for lights on a 300 gallon planted tank.

I found this earlier. Par requirements for growing certain types of plants. Maybe this can help you to find a lights that meet the requirements you specifically have. Problem is most of the cheaper led lights are made to work at a depth of 19-24" max. Lot of people swear by the fluval...

Excuse the mess, still working but making progress. 40g breeder is up and running. The one on the bottom will be running next week. LPH80 going in tomorrow for the time being. Once I build the back wall and move some of the other tanks around I'll post pics but right now it's a mess.

    2024 MLB season

Ohtani is starting to hit. 3-4 today with 2 doubles and a homer his 2nd of the season. Mookie is finally coming back to earth but his on base % is still sky high. Outmans been hitting line drives everywhere there's a glove this first part of the season and today he finally connected and went...

Need suggestions for lights on a 300 gallon planted tank.

For something that deep you need penetration and depending on what your budget is I would recommend the Kessil A160WE or A360X. I've had my fair share of lights in the past and there's a lot of good quality lights out there for sure but on the quality end of the spectrum Kessils are hard to...

    Bottom feeders

There's plenty of plecos that stay on the smaller side and fit many different water parameters. If you're looking for a cleanup crew I'd look elsewhere. Also most of the more desirable smaller plecos also don't like to be out and about during daylight hours so you won't see them often. Not to...

    2024 MLB season

I agree 100%. They've done a great job filling the gaps. I just meant it gives another young player an opportunity to take advantage of and get some work he otherwise woukdnt have. That's speeds up the development process when you have to face the best and figure out how to beat them.

    "Best" Filter Media

To kind of parrot what twotankamin was saying I would probably go with 20ppi so it wouldn't clog as quickly. If you wanted to ask the real expert you should contact Stephan at Swisstropicals, he would be able to tell you better.

    What are you doing today?

Hopefully I'll be washing substrate and setting up a grow out tank today if my order from chewy arrives. I've got to get these juveniles out of the breeding tank and reduce the bio load asap as I have 2 other clutches that were just born in the same tank. Please FedEx deliver my supplies today!

    Hidden talents

Mostly younger kids are great. They look to you for guidance and fun if youve got half a personality. I used to be a snowboard instructor, those kids were the worst. I stopped riding for 2 years after I was an instructor. Lost my passion for it because of whining kids and parents who thought...

The beginning of the journey, Hypancistrus..

Adding 5 more tanks. Dedicated 20G high quarantine, 20G long grow out and (3) 40 breeders. In the past I have only set up a hospital tank when necessary but I feel like it's necessary now with everything I have going on. I needed the extra grow out tank so now I'll have 3 total. 3 more...
