    Best Nano Tank Light?

I use Hgger lights for my 5 gals and they are easy to find on amazon.au. It's the 14 watt size you'll need for your tank. I've got the 14 watt version of this on my 5 gal, but can't seem to find the 14 watt version on amazon.au...

🐠 TOTM VOTE NOW - March 2024 Tank of the Month Contest (16 gal & smaller)

This is one of my 5 gals. It's been more or less in it's present form for about a year. Plants are vallis, ludwigia palustris super red, Limnophila sessiliflora, Buce kedagang. The vallis and buce are quite recent additions so are yet to fill out properly. Critters are one zebra nerite, 10...

I'm feeling discouraged about my pygmy cories.

It happened by accident at first when some fruit flies got into my micro worm culture and laid eggs. I didn’t notice until I scraped some microworms off the side of the container to feed my fish, and in amongst the microworms were some fruit fly larvae. So I then started to encourage it. I’d...

I'm feeling discouraged about my pygmy cories.

Yeah, you need sand really. I think that platies and zebra danios are not a great match for pygmy corys, so that may be an issue. They need a sedate tank. They can be a little skittish and I think with platies and zebra danios bumbling around they may be put off feeding and head for cover. I...

    Thinking of getting pet mice

General gerbil muesli as a staple, fresh veg such as broccoli is good, a berry or two every now and again, and they go crazy for one or two treats a day called Niblots here in UK. They are little crunchy parcels filled with fruit flavour gel.

    Thinking of getting pet mice

Gerbils are a good alternative. They are not as large as rats and have furry tails. They can be quite noisy but they are pretty clean and don’t need cleaning out more than once every 2-3 weeks. They are very keen in chewing things so any toilet roll tubes, left over packing paper etc get put in...

    Air line organizing…

Can we see a photo of the nook with all your tanks, and your airline handiwork?

    Dirty Water

No. You cannot use a naked uv bulb. It will be dangerous for you and your fish. If you must use uv get a proper uv steriliser with an enclosed bulb designed for aquarium use.

5 gal tank just exploded with algae (kind of) could use help

Agree, with the plants you've got you just don't need the aquasoil. As Colin says, the algae is most likely due to too much nutrient. I'd get rid of it but if you want to keep it then get a load of fast growers in there and perhaps the algae will reduce in time. I'd add a vallis and a bunch of...

What is this vitiligo-like disease called?

It's possible that the fish has something going a bit wrong with the processes by which colouration is expressed. Many species of fish can change colour quite markedly in a short space of time, and some species of pencilfish exhibit different colouration at night time v daytime. As Colin says...

I think something is wrong with my silvertip

I have the same gravel vac. It is a decent one I would say. You've got the pump on the hose to start the siphon and then you've got a flow regulator at the top. It comes apart so that you can clean the coarse sieve at the top of the tube if it gets blocked up detritus/leaves etc. You want to...

    Fish Constantly Dying

I can only sympathise with what you are experiencing. what filter are you using? what temperature do you maintain your tank at? what test kits are you using? Do you know if your fish stores uses the same water supply as you? photo of tank please. I'm assuming that when you say the test results...

    diy lids

Thanks. I'll see how they are going for March. Hopefully, the plant situation in the left hand tank will be sorted by then and I'd also like the Rotala in the right hand tank to fill out a bit more.

    diy lids

Fed up with fish jumping out of my two nanos, I decided to make some diy lids. the left hand tank is an Aquael leddy 40. It came with a proper fitted hood with an LED light tube and the cables and airline go through cut-out at the rear. I liked the hood, but I found the light to be...

    Electric shock

Well, we are on 230v mains here in UK so it could have been a bit nasty. I have a load of old electrical fish tank stuff. I tend to relieve friends and family of their tanks when they grow tired of them, and so I have ended up with loads of filters, pumps, heaters, lights etc. I use them to...

    Electric shock

Hi. A few weeks ago I got a mild electric shock off a mini internal filter in my quarantine tank. It was pretty old. It wasn’t a big deal but it was quite noticeable when I put my hand in the tank to remove the filter for cleaning. The fish didn’t seem bothered. Why wasn’t I/the fish fried...

    care of plants

From a plant health point of view, from what I can see, everything is growing well and you've got no algae. Absent any evidence of nutrient deficiency, I'd be tempted to leave as is.

    Favourite 60's, 70's and 80's Christmas songs?

Starting this thread in September was a bit weird to be honest, but now that we are in December, my Xmas lights are up, the tree is up and it'll be here before we know it. Top Xmas songs from 60s, 70s and 80s, here are a few:- Phil Spector's Christmas album is obviously a classic, but then...

What kind of shrimp is this?

This one's got a bit of a strip but is also veering toward purple. My original colonist shrimp were all standard cherry red and average grade. I have some standard red ones with more obvious stripes but couldn't get a pic last night. Wil try again.

What kind of shrimp is this?

My red cherry shrimp colony has loads of shrimp with prominent stripes like yours. None of the original shrimp I bought had the stripe, but the colours have changed over time. I've had the shrimp colony going for two years and in that time, the stripes down the back appeared, but there have been...
