    Water change killing anubias

Taking Buddlea as an example - it can be cut right back almost to the ground, because it grows so far and readily, that it'll shoot up again in the Spring, and grow bushier and flower even better after a hard cut back. But try that on a succulant, and you'll almost certainly have a dead...

    Water change killing anubias

Not sure about with anubius specifically, but I'd be inclined to leave the leaves alone until fully dead and ready to fall off anyway. With outdoor and houseplants, it depends on the type of plant. Cutting back can promote new growth, absolutely, and encourage the plant to produce new shoots...

    Water change killing anubias

That's a gorgeously large plant! A.coffeifolia? I shouldn't think it would hurt to try a liquid fertiliser. I don't know much about plant nutrition though I'm afraid, was just curious and also saw it was you posting, so popped in to say hi! @MattW3344 seems good with plants, hopefully he'll...

That's adorable, and I absolutely want his suggestions! :D I loathe the 12.5g the betta is in. Slightly curved front glass to look nice without seams (it's a basic starter kit type tank with a light so weak no live plants can survive in there, not even floating ones at the surface), but that...

Y You absolutely are not! You haven't done anything wrong! And it's an interesting thread, sorry, not trying to hijack it! Besides, technically, @GaryE was the one who ruined my plans! ;) Only teasing! Neither of you did. Only helped me be on the lookout for and dodge a potential...

wow... these look incredible... trying to look beyond TB

Oh no! That's the second one that was on my wishlist to go with my planned p.luminatus! Store had them under really good lighting, so while not a dramatic looking as some of the dwarf rainbows, is really pretty under good light with lots of blues. They had a gorgeously scaped planted display...

@Naughts I see you approve of the name Hoplo for him! Any other name suggestions welcome! I'm rubbish at coming up with names! Need to get a good pic of blue betta boy too, so people can see him and give name suggestions. I'm drawing a blank right now, and it took me weeks to settle on...

The killies are stunning! I will absolutely be trying some at some point, when I have a suitable tank and find some I love! But if you want larger groups, but still some lovely colour, have you looked at pseudomugil?

Could be! Sorry man, it's a lot of work! But you'll likely feel less anxious about setting the tank bank up after going through all that.

wow... these look incredible... trying to look beyond TB

If you've had fish TB in there, yeah, it's one time when I'd do a full tear down sanitise, throw anything porous, chuck substrate and probably wood, (safely) bleach solution clean tank and any saveable equipment like heaters/filters/nets/buckets. Bleach solution not left too long on the silicone...

    Cory cats are addicting

Hi! I haven't been in threads much for a while so don't know a lot of the newer posters, so a belated welcome from me to the forum, and to the hobby! :hi: You've been in the hobby for less than a year, and already successfully colony bred panda cories in a community tank setting? I'm genuinely...

It's context specific really, isn't it? If the topic is scientific, or it's just general chat or say, someone listing their tank stocking as a whole, it's normal for us to use common names. We all know which species I mean when I say "pygmy cories and otos", and using the scientific names for...

Hoplo is also one of those words that sounds exactly like what it's trying to describe. Suits their boisterous energy when bopping about checking out every nook and cranny. It's a cute name! If I do wind up keeping, Hoplo might just have to become his pet name. :)

While I do appreciate the new classifications, and that scientific names do need to be changed and updated as we learn more, discover more species, and DNA testing etc reveals how they truly relate to one another and where they've diverged into different species and sub-specie etc, seriously, I...

    My Managerie of Tanks

I'll be back as soon as I reasonably can to admire and ask questions, I've known since we met that your tanks are always gorgeous, with a lot of thought and work put into them, to make them the best possible habitat for the fish you love! It's always inspiring to see your tank and fish photos...

Eeek! I'm not ready yet, have to do a lot of thinking, reading, and tank set up design first... but it's good to know they're around locally, and while I winced, it really isn't a bad price for a fish like this! Thank you for checking that out for me! If I keep him I definitely want to do a...

Did my best with photos, was adjusting camera settings as I went, and had to use a glass vase since my Ciano cube is full of shrimp now, and wanted glass, but curved glass, and a little too small for him! But friend said to upload even the blurry ones, since the tail markings can distinguish...

G Perfect timing! :D I was just in another tab making a thread to upload pics of him! Have a mutual friend of ours eager to help ID him/her too, she told me to upload even the blurry ones, 'cos they can have distinctive features. And I'm not a skilled photographer! lol
