IME the only fish taht go well with them with little to NO problems are gold fish. those long fins are just invatations to fishies looking to nip fins.     Have you checked your water for amonia ? Aside of the normal itch a fish can get and as CM mentioned ick can also cause a fish to want to scratch. With ick the fish will do so because the parasite is beneath the skin / scales. Now if the amonia levels are high this can cause this scratching...

    I keep both land and water turtles. Both like and eat fish. I get mine from a local canal BUT, I do medicate them prior for at least a week and then realease them into the back yard pond. Once they have been living there they are safe and free of parasites because I have medicated them...

    Really nice Ptyochromis species. Unfortionately my fuzzy picture skills kicked in and this is what I got. Thiss is a young male starting to show the red chest and nice fin / boby colors. The colors are there. Look past the fuzzyness, See them now. :lol: :lol: :lol:

    This species is unusualy gray in color. Mature males show blue and black while females stay slate gray. Really neat species. laid back as far as aggression. other than when breeding then they can be nasty.
