Jumping in here, but any superglue that is just cyanoacrylate is fish and aquarium safe. It's used in human and veterinary medicine too! Water actually speeds up the "drying" process, so it won't dissolve. Any fumes from cyanoacrylate become inert once they come into contact with moisture...

I'm genuinely considering giving it a go, and intentionally breeding them again. I've never seen any species of pencilfish in any of the fish shops I've visited in Ireland. I'm sure there would be enough demand!
