I also want to do one of these tanks and I think the dwarf hairgrass looks very nice as a carpet.

The lighting is 216W about 11" above the water. No CO2 yet but hopefully soon.

Thanks for that link. I was looking at "aquarium fertilizer" last night and went back today and went ahead and ordered the Root Medic Complete capsules. These should last me a while.

I may just go that route then because I can always have the other 20oz tanks as a backup while using one and I wont have the hassle of a DIY setup. Thanks for the advice.

Oh no, I forgot about that! Hahahaha.........Yeah, I could see using one of those and they would last a long time. I have 3 of the 20oz paintball cylinders from my daughters paintball stuff that are still good so had originally thought about going that route and getting a regulator with a solenoid.

Well, I thought the pressurized systems were alot more expensive than a DIY setup. To be honest I dont want to go DIY on this one but I dont want to spend alot more money for a while. I would much rather have a pressurized setup for my tank.

I am thinking of doing a DIY C02 setup for my 55g but I keep seeing that the DIY version is best for 30g and less. So I couldnt go with a larger plastic bottle and more ingredients? My tank is not heavily planted at all. Thanks.

Thats interesting. I read the technical specs on both the Osmocote and the Miracle Gro spikes and they are pretty close. They have virtually the same ingredients but the values are a little different in a few cases. I have read that you can freeze the spikes then push them into the substrate...

I have toyed with the idea of using the Miracle Gro fertilizer spikes for my small assortment of plants. In yall's opinion, are these a good idea to use?

Some people like to have alot of flow in their tanks because of its benefits such as keeping detritus in the water column and subsequently picked up by the filtration or because some fish love the added flow of a powerhead but either way I dont think you can go wrong with the extra flow.

Well thats a load off my mind because of all the products out there. I do have a de-chlorinator and an API test kit along with some algae treatment(which actually works)and thats it. What about treatments for plants? I dont have much, a couple of swords and some anubias.

I was curious what chemicals you view as "must haves" for a FW and or planted aquarium. Their are so many products out there and it is a little daunting when trying to figure out what you really need so I am looking for the essentials. Thanks.
