Pete, I am honestly humbled by yours and everyone else's comments!  Mojo, You are actually correct. They are not the best tank mates, normally. I think they will be fine though, as they are 5 tiny kids, amid 18 big Discus. So I think the tank hierarchy is all ready so well established that they...

Discus Not Eating ( 3 Weeks Now )

It's almost certainly Hexamitiasis. You need to treat it with Metronidazole. 250mg/10 gallons of water. Also raise the water temp to 31-32C. 50% water change each day, adding water with the medication added. Treat for 7-10 days. Hope that helps.

    Calculating Volume Of Sand

7 litres of sand will give you a one inch covering for your tank. This equates to 10kg(22lb).

    Oxygenation?

Also, I would doubt that there are any lakes in the world that don't see wind and rain. The wind not only causes a lot of surface agitation, but also circulates the water by pushing the surface water against the bank and creating an undertow.

    Air Stone In A Tank

The air stone, or curtain simply circulate the water, which in turn aides gas exchange at the surface. Both do the same job, so it comes down to aesthetics......which do you like the look of? ;)

Watched them eating the really small snails earlier..... My heros!!! The rummys look really nice. I saved them from a tiny little tank in the shop! 2,000 Liter Discus Tank

I never knew that....my snail knowledge is limited! I should be able to find them easily, and so should my LFS. Am off to the market today to see if I can find them there. Fingers crossed, or I may well need to take your advise and start poking around in the lake across the road. ;-)

    20 Gallon Planted Journey

Ah, ok got it now. My top tip for any future vacations you are on, unless you are going for more than 2 weeks, don't bother feeding your fish. They won't starve to death, and it can actually beneficial to fast them for short periods. In the wild fish don't find food everyday, and in temperate...

Tetra vacation? What is that? Did you take that photo during a water change? You also had a "7 day" update, did you cycle the filter? or was that 7 days from setting up the tank?

    Breeding My Discus

Picking this up again! I recently bought a new tank for my Discus, so my old 450l is now redundant. So I am going to turn it into a 3 bay breeding salon. I plan to drill the base out and have over flow pipes, which will double a breeding pipes. Also plumb in a sump filter and auto water changer...

The Angel Isles: Planted Community Tank

Are you serious??   Look how healthy those fish are! Just to add a point, all those fish were bred in captivity as were there parents, grandparents, great grandparents, etc., etc. So they don't know any different.    It would be like saying your pet dog needs a forest, a pack of wolves and some...

Plants are looking super nice! Stems are 3 feet long! Did some trimming and re-planting of the clippings. Just wish i had planted the stems at the outlet end of the tank. As the flow from the inlet was making them tangle. I have adjusted the inlet pipes a bit to try to cure this. The Anubius are...

RMS, without wanting to open a debate on oxygen exchange in water. The oxygen is generally absorbed through the waters surface. The function of the air pump in an aquarium is to cause water circulation. This pushes the water from the bottom of the tank up to the surface, where it can then absorb...

    Diatom Removal?

Add some phosphate remover in your filter. Something like Eheim phosphate out, or a similar product(there are many out there), and this should get rid of it. You will still need to clean the existing diatoms away, I would use a sponge and toothbrush, but it should then me kept at bay. When you...
