It's almost certainly Hexamitiasis. You need to treat it with Metronidazole. 250mg/10 gallons of water. Also raise the water temp to 31-32C. 50% water change each day, adding water with the medication added. Treat for 7-10 days. Hope that helps.

7 litres of sand will give you a one inch covering for your tank. This equates to 10kg(22lb).

Looks like those YoYo's are having a feast! The bottom of my tank is littered with empty snail shells, happy days 

Normally around 14 days between egg laying, if the fry don't survive, or are removed from the parents.

Also, I would doubt that there are any lakes in the world that don't see wind and rain. The wind not only causes a lot of surface agitation, but also circulates the water by pushing the surface water against the bank and creating an undertow.

The air stone, or curtain simply circulate the water, which in turn aides gas exchange at the surface. Both do the same job, so it comes down to aesthetics......which do you like the look of? ;)

Watched them eating the really small snails earlier..... My heros!!! The rummys look really nice. I saved them from a tiny little tank in the shop! My discus have had a great growth spurt since going in this tank, but I do think my girlfriend feeds them too much when I am at work!!!! I will try...

I never knew that....my snail knowledge is limited! I should be able to find them easily, and so should my LFS. Am off to the market today to see if I can find them there. Fingers crossed, or I may well need to take your advise and start poking around in the lake across the road. ;-)

Tetra vacation? What is that? Did you take that photo during a water change? You also had a "7 day" update, did you cycle the filter? or was that 7 days from setting up the tank? 

+1 on Java, and also Amazon Swords will do well in sand, as do Rotala Wallichii 

Picking this up again! I recently bought a new tank for my Discus, so my old 450l is now redundant. So I am going to turn it into a 3 bay breeding salon. I plan to drill the base out and have over flow pipes, which will double a breeding pipes. Also plumb in a sump filter and auto water changer...
