the noise could well be the crab. theres no real way of us being able to help you i.d. it with the info you have given us above. can you describe what it looks like in more detail... any chance of getting a pic? you could try getting a piece of prawn/cooked shrimp on a thin skewer an placing it...

No real updates yet guys, I appologise for not having posted for a while but Ive been very busy with work etc so aint really had chance to give the tank much attention or update this thread. I think due to this I have had a red slime algae outbreak in my tank and over most of my sandbed. To help...

Yea I agree with ski. the tank is looking good BigC. your got dome nice corraline algae on your LR. I cant wait to see this tank when it matures. I bet it will look stunning when coral and fish are in there. Keep up the good work mate ;)

the clownfish look nice and healthy mate. Dont get the anemones just yet though, wait for the tank to start to mature a bit first though! what size is the tank?

It's probably picked at a rock or something too hard or got into a fight with another crab. But yea the claw should grow back! Ive had crabs and shrimps lose whole legs only to find them grow back after few weeks!

Sounds to me like you've got a decorator crab rather than an emerald crab! I have 1 the same in my tank, it came to me as a colony of polyps which suddenly moved as I went to put them into my tank. It is really fun to watch but I find it a right pain at times as it always pics at my juvenile...

I cant recall their exact name at this moment in time but I have loads of these under near enough every piece of LR. What you tend to get is either 1 or 2 thin long white tentacles come waving out into the water column. They seem to be harmless and as far as I'm aware they are filter feeders so...

Is that bubbles its producing? It actually looks like cyano...

Well I currently have a 150w 10000k MH on my tank with 2 x 39w actinics as well. My tank contains several corals including LPS. Would the keeping the lights off for several days method not affect my corals??? But what happens once its gone? Wont putting the lights back on bring it back?

Mnually removing green bubble algae works alot of the time. Ive never had a emerald crab, instead I just pick the bubbles straight out of the tank without a problem, they are quite tough, but dont try squezzing them too hard! ;)

It does indeed look like a zoanthid in the pic. When you touch it does it retract fully into the LR or does it curl up into a ball shape?

Yea but wouldnt a predator have to be big to take down any potential mantis? Also wouldnt it eat my corals and inverts? I dont really want to be losing everything I have in the tank...
