    Fiddler crabs

Wouldn't it have been a better idea to research the crabs before buying them? Then you have a better understanding of what they require. (Just saying)

Tank lid: What do you use?

I wouldn't mind finding a clear hood so I can place a light overhead without it attaching under the hood, such as this type, but it's the matter of finding them in the UK, unless the local garden centre can find one (If I decide to buy a tank from them)

Found a website that has most items I want. I'll go for the 150w heater. Any recommendations for fast growing South American plants? I have the cabomba written down. If I'm not adding ammonia to a planted tank, what do I do? How does the cycling work? I can't find anything on the net that goes...

I've looked on the net and I cannot find the Fusion pump in the UK, however, I've watched a couple of videos for the Eheim and it seems quieter than most, so think I will buy one of these. Thank you for mentioning it @essjay My questions now are: Can I hook this up to two sponge filters? Why...

How much sand would be needed for a 20g long? Also, still no idea what filter to buy. Did find these corner filters, or I guess I could use an Aquaclear 20.

    Plant fertilizer?

    Mystery eggs??

At the end of the day, shop keepers, whatever the specialise in, are only there to take your money. It's best to find information out elsewhere.

Tank lid: What do you use?

I'm only asking what people use, whether they're custom made or not.

    Pre-filter question

If I was using a filter that used cartridges, I would replace them with with sponge and or ceramic thingies. Thus increasing the area bacteria can collect and grow. No doubt cartridges are more expensive than the two materials I've mentioned.

Tank lid: What do you use?

If they're not the standard cover/condensation lid, what do you use? I would like images then I can get some ideas. Thanks in advance

Thanks for the link. I'm kinda going off black sand. It was only an idea I got from a youtube video. But I do kinda like that colour sand. Unsure about foam filters as they require an air pump. Since I would have the tank in my bedroom, I don't want to hear a hum all the time.

Found it diificult in finding a tank I want. Finally found one and decided to get the 20 gallon 'long' instead of the 29 gallon. Sadly I would have to order it online and risk breakages. But I'll try and find a store close by. Been watching and reading a lot and I'm not in a rush in getting a...

I've scoured the net for stores that have websites and none of them have any 20 long tanks. I'll keep the 29 gallon in mind. Any ideas on companies that do good kits?

Found this website which could be good for seeing how many fish can fit into a tank (I know plants/ornaments are not included.) It has a list for different filters used and I don't know what kits use. AqAdvisor Unsure which Cory I could get, I think it would depend on what my local shops have.

Thanks for the post, I needed some guidance. I think I would go for the Corydoras not the Kuhli's. Rummy and Neon Tetra? 10 of each? Or one species only with so many Cory? Although I said in a previous post that I didn't want tetra, I've changed my mind. I'm guessing they're a good for...

Not too bothered about the sand it was only an idea. I have over 20 years of going fishing in real life, so I do know a thing or two about fish, but not keeping fish as pets. Yes I know about certain fish hurting themselves on certain gravel. I've been reading a lot on the net. If there's any...

Like I said "nothing is set in stone" I found the idea of sand and black gravel on youtube. I liked the look of it - the contrast between the black and white, and having a few different species of plant seemed great. She had snails and some fish in a 20 gallon tank. But now moved on to a tank...

Decided that It'll be about 1 quarter of sand, so they'll have plenty of black gravel. Nothing is set in stone though, so might change to one colour throughout. Doesn't really help me in what fish I would be interested in, I guess I'll have to do some research. Shrimp?

I want white sand to add some contrast against the black gravel. Just unsure which is best. I meant Fluval instead of substrate in my previous post, underneath the black gravel to act as nutrients for plants, with maybe some root tablets. Would like some snails to keep algae at bay, and the...

Cabinet is on small wheels. Website says it's 22mg/l I'm planning on having three bases, both ends of the tank will be substrate for plants and then black gravel on top, with white sand in the middle - Plants on the gravel, with maybe a surface plant with a couple of ornaments.

Edit: Seangee, Thank you for your reply. I understand that there may be more complications with a smaller tank, giving it some thought, I think I would be better off with a larger tank. How about a 20 gallon? The 'long' verson would fit on the cabinet. A quick look on my water board website ...

Hi guys. First post. Hopefully this forum will be helpful. Looking into buying my first aquarium, but unsure what size. I was thinking about a 10 gallon since it will fit on a cabinet I have, and there's nowhere else to put larger size, so I may go for that size. Fish I'm interested in: Betta...
