    My planted tank

I've got platies, a couple of minnows, a Plec and some snails. The Anacharis grows really quickly in here. I have to take it apart regularly and replant so the fish have got room to swim

    My planted tank

Hi, I've had to do a bit of landscaping in my tank as my plants went wild and took over. Hoping I've got a good mixture of clear swimming space and good hiding spots for my fry. Feedback/suggestions for improvement welcome!

    Platy mating dance

This is how the pet shop sold them to me I did try to buy two more females but because of Covid they were not selling live animals. I've now got some platy babies so I'm hoping the majority will be female and even the numbers out a bit. When should I be able to accurately tell the sex of my fry...

    Platy mating dance

Hi, do male platys little to show off a bit before mating? My two males are fanning out their fins and pecking each other and swimming in really jerky movements. (They are perfectly normal when the other male isn't around). My female isn't impressed. I think she'd actually roll her eyes of she could

Thinking of going from artificial decorations to live plants. How can I make this less stressful for fish?

Hi, I left my artificial plants in while my new plants started to grow and then removed them gradually so there were still places places for the fish to hide.

    Whats Yours?

I used to have a red tail catfish many years ago.. he was really naughty . He used to eat anything he could fit in his mouth (other fish, heater, filter parts etc) they'd not really anything big enough that you could put in with it that he wouldn't try and eat. I loved him though

Best way to deal with pregnant platy

He doesn't look the same as all the others. He can't swim properly and just sort of scrabbles over the bottom to get around and then spends most of his time hiding in the gravel. Poor little guy.

Best way to deal with pregnant platy

That's what I thought, I found and caught 5 and they are now in their own tank. 4 are doing well but 1 has stayed quite small and doesn't really leave the bottom of the tank so I don't think he'd survive if I put him back in the main tank. I did however find another 3 fry in my main tank that...

Best way to deal with pregnant platy

So, after I've been watching my main tank like a hawk, setting up breeding traps and buying a while new tank set up for my babies because I didn't think any would survive I've today found another two babies in my main tank swimming around happily. I'm going to leave them to it. They seem a bit...

Best way to deal with pregnant platy

Thanks for the replies. I'll leave her to it and if I come across any fry next time I'll just fish them out.. I'll leave her to it after that. I've only got 6 fry now so I can handle a few more yet I might end up finding a home for the females and just keeping males. Btw. There is no heater in...

Best way to deal with pregnant platy

Hi, I've got make and female platys in my main tank ( above) and currently have 6 fry in my smaller tank. My question is, if my platy gets pregnant again how do I best handle her when she's ready to give birth? Do I put her in my empty breeding trap? Put her in my fry tank and hope she doesn't...

Those fish are beautiful. Never seen those before. Congrats on the babies.

    A baby!!!!!

These are my first fry so I'm glad I managed to save some. My tank isn't very big though so if all of these reach adulthood I may need to upgrade. How old/big do they need to be before I release them into the main tank without them being eaten?

    A baby!!!!!

Aww. Glad he's done a good job of hiding. I've found 6 babies so far (they are 10 days old) I managed to catch them and separate them into a breeder tank.. mum is in the background keeping her eye on them.

Swordtail, huge no gravid spot , is she ready to give birth xx

My platy was the same, no gravid spot but right before she gave birth she had a little bulge in front of her fin. Her babies were born over night that night. Good luck!

Are these snail eggs or babies or something else and how do I get rid of them?

Hi, I'm watching this post too because I counted 38 baby snails in my tank today. Keen to get rid of some humanely.
