    Can't Beat The Ich

OMG, To make my matters worse, one of the females is having babies and I don't know who! I think it's platy because it's so small but I'm not entirely sure. I found babies in the tank a couple of days ago (2). I saw one hanging out in some loose money wort at the top of the tank and I scooped...

    Can't Beat The Ich

okay, looks like I finally have the ich taken care of. I did an 80% water change and added super ich cure this time thinking maybe a change in meds will make the difference. I saw almost an instant affect but now it seems I have extra problems. I think they have developed a secondary...

    Can't Beat The Ich

This is precisely why I picked up a used tank from someone on craigslist. I felt totally helpless with the equisition of the sick fish. I wanted to pull it right back out straight away and plop it in a bucket with an airstone or something but I didn't have anything to make that possible and I...

    Can't Beat The Ich

I was mistaken when I said ammonia was 0-.25 ppm....seems I didn't let the test sit long enough before reading it or the tube wasn't clean. I took another test to be sure and it's zero. Nitrite is also zero. This is usually the case when I test. I have two live plants in the tank, I have...

    Can't Beat The Ich

My tank has had ich now since the 12th!!! I have been medicating with Quick Cure ever since and a 1/3 water change every 4 days and the temperature is increased to 82 F. I also removed the activated carbon from the filter. Water perams are in normal range and remain consistant and are as...

Help Advice - Swapping Substrate Ugf To Sand

I wanted to update. The tank is still doing great and thriving! I did have the nitrates trying to rise on me (ammonia and nitrites at 0 ppm or a hair bit higher). I simply added a tad bit more live plant to the tank. I decided on some money wort since it's easy to get here at the LFS. I...

Help Advice - Swapping Substrate Ugf To Sand

Thanks for the advice fluttermoth! I didn't realize it was a stress thing with the neons..hmm. I noticed this morning they were doing as you say, spread out and just chillin. With what you say, I think maybe the heat during the day. It gets a little hot and the tank temp rises to about 80-82...

Help Advice - Swapping Substrate Ugf To Sand

Hey thanks! I'm so happy it's working. Nitrates are not zero like they used to be but are staying super low so I'm not all concerned about it. It's staying at about 5 ppm...nothing to complain about. The fish love to play in the current the filter puts out and my neons are still schooling...

Help Advice - Swapping Substrate Ugf To Sand

So I figured I'd go for the swap and risk a cycle but trying to prevent it. What I did: Removed all decorations and drained water into two large buckets (about 15 gallons worth). Then gathered up the fish and placed into the water buckets along with a WHOLE bunch of the gravel. I filled...

Help Advice - Swapping Substrate Ugf To Sand

@BigbruiserAl - I'm using an undergravel filter right now as my only means of filtering so yes, it's full of bacteria. The canister filter has been installed since yesterday about 10 pm and running full steam. I also sturred up the gravel in the tank pretty good after I installed it to...

Cycling My 30 Gallon Tank Now, Will This Setup Work After Its Done?

They don't HAVE to have salt. Mine did worse when I added salt to the tank. Did a couple water changes and the only surviver (both balloons died) is doing way better. However, the mollys and guppies don't generally go with Gourami and Anglefish. that's my knowledge...still slightly newbie...

Help Advice - Swapping Substrate Ugf To Sand

I am swapping my 55 gallon that has been running for about 5 months, well cycled with only an undergravel filter. I am swapping away from the undergravel filter and going to sand. I just purchased a fluval canister filter and set it up in the tank to get it seeding. Is there anything I can do...

    What's Wrong?! Sick Fish!

Alright, I have done a huge amount of research trying to figure things out with my tank and learn more about operating larger fish tanks since my experience growing up was with 10 gallon tanks. I have decided to ditch the undergravel system...in fact, I'm going over to sand soon. But I have...

    What's Wrong?! Sick Fish!

*BUMP*!! After my last post I went ahead and tried just those 4 tablets I had since it's all I had and I got the pH down a little (from 8 to just under 7.6). Next issue I just noticed is after a full 24 hours after slowly adding the tablets the water has climbed in ph just a bit. It's now...

    Tank Concept

I found if you submerge each peice under water and shake the air out of them so they float and assembling them under water really works. Sooo Cool!! Weights would work too if you can find places to attatch them. Another idea I haven't tried is to use aquarium safe silicone to fill in the...

    Tank Concept

Sounds really cool. Would the ships be floating or placed at the bottom? If placed at the bottom each piece would need to be free of air since there is enough air pockets in legos to make it float or not sink all the way no matter how big it is. If you manage to get it together I'd love to...

Just found this thread a couple of days ago. If you haven't already tried I thought I'd let you know my experience with legos and water. They are kick butt in aquariums but are dificult to make sink!! When building something it must be built under water with all the air pockets shaken out of...

Okay everyone I got the new test kit! Results: from the tank: pH-8 Nitrite - 0 Ammonia - 0 Nitrate - 5 ppm From the tap I get the water from: pH - 7.6 the rest is the same Now, I have 40 gallons worth of Tetra Correct pH. Would that be fine to use it in the 55 gallon or should I just do a...

Okay, so far the fish are still doing fine. I have another question though..well..two. One, is it okay or normal for them to bloat/get very rounded stomachs when they eat. My neons are the only ones doing it, they get a very round bulge under their belly no matter what they eat. I fed algea...

    What's Wrong?! Sick Fish!

Alright. I don't know exactly how hard the water is since all I can find to test it are the strips. The API strips I have always put the water at 120-180 ppm GH and 180-240 ppm KH even with the use of TopFin Tap Water Dechlorinator liquid. In any case I'll pick up the master kit thursday and...

    What's Wrong?! Sick Fish!

Okay, to update..My sick female balloon molly is still alive. She is being kept in a breeding/birthing net so the fish don't pick at her and I have been feeding her a cooked, deshelled pea once per day. This will be the third day doing this. I am also doing water changes. Sunday I did a...

Okay, I did a 50% water change. This time not disturbing the rocks because I didn't want to mess up too much of the good bacteria. What's Wrong?! Sick Fish!

Well, I put the dying molly in a breeder net box and gave her a pea so the other fish won't eat it. She's not really swimming around and is not showing any interest in the pea. I don't know what else to do other then leave her in the net and see if she manages to eat it and if that has any affect.
