Thank you! I hope so too! I’m so excited!

    Goldfish and Platy Fry

I see where both points are coming from and I appreciate hearing both sides of the argument. I contacted the store and they said they could take the fish, which I will most likely do, not because I don’t think they’d get along, but mostly because I want as much room as possible for the goldfish...

    Goldfish and Platy Fry

Alrighty! If I turned down the heater (I believe I can) to 75 degrees fahrenheit, making it about a 5 degree difference, is that still too dangerous?

    Goldfish and Platy Fry

Would it be dangerous for the fish for the tank to go from tropical temps to Coldwater temps by taking out the heater? It usually stays around 80 degrees Fahrenheit, the room it’s in is at 70 degrees fahrenheit. Thanks!

Alrighty, I’ll leave them for now and ask the store. Thank you!

    Goldfish and Platy Fry

Thank you! I will look into asking a nearby store. If for whatever reason they cannot/do not take them, would it be a big deal if the platy were to stay in the tank with the goldfish if they got equal care? I don’t want to overcrowd, that was a main reason I was looking to give away some fish...

    Goldfish and Platy Fry

Hi! I decided to start a new thread because this was on a different topic than my last one (In my opinion). Anyway, I was hoping to house a black moor in a 20 gal tank. However, this tank is currently occupied by platy fry and a female. As much as I love them, I would rather give them to someone...

    Goldfish Selection

Thanks! Do you recommend floating plants if you have a waterfall filter? Also, in general, is there any one type of goldfish best suited for a 20 gal more than others? I really like the black moors but I would just like to check because they seem more of a hefty fish. Thanks again!

    Goldfish Selection

Thank you! I was thinking of getting a fancy, not sure what kind, maybe a black moor? If the room the tank is located in stays around 70 degrees f. on a normal day and is not in direct sunlight, is a heater necessary? I have one on hand, just in case. Also, I read goldfish need lots of oxygen...

    Goldfish Selection

Hi! I have heard/read a lot of conflicting info about keeping different types of goldfish, mainly on the minimum and proper tank size. So I would like to ask: What is the minimum tank size for 1 fancy goldfish? Long, standard, or high tanks? What is the best temperature? Any info is appreciated...

    Parasites on Glass??

Me neither, I looked up detritus worms and they don’t don’t look like them. I’ll siphon the gravel tomorrow and see what that does.

    Strange neon tetra

Hi! One of my neons seems to not be doing so well. It is pale, slow, has some flecks on it, and has an enlarged stomach.I’m not sure what it is. I’ll post a picture

    Parasites on Glass??

Hi Today I went downstairs to turn on the tank light for my 20 gal and noticed a ton of little whitish, circular creatures all over the glass walls. They move in any direction, stuck themselves to the glass, and drift in the water. Is there anyway to get rid of them (preferably without...

    Over Stocked or Not?

Thank you, I will not add anything then. I fully agree that bettas do well on their own, however I’ve also had lots of luck with keeping bettas in communities and with other fish, but I do understand what your saying. It’s just been my personal experience. Thank you.

    Over Stocked or Not?

Hi! So my 3 gallon tank with my small male betta and a female guppy grows algae rather quickly. It is only them in there, no shrimp or snails. But in my 2.5 gallon, I have my older male betta with a small nerite. So, I would like to know if a 3 gallon tank with a young male betta, a female...

    Nerite stopped eating

Hi! So recently I’ve noticed my zebra nerite (housed in a 2.5 gal tank with one male betta and plenty of algae, I know it’s a tight squeeze) has stopped cleaning the algae off the tank walls, plants, and gravel. I’ve seen him hanging around the filter (not on the intake though) and he had hardly...

    After maintenance lighting

Hi! This might seem like a strange question, but after a water change or tank cleaning, is it better to have the lights off or can they stay on? I ask because I have a tank I’m looking after that I just cleaned and added water to. The fish is fed at night before bed and I always leave the light...

    Identify platy fry

Hi! In my 20 gallon hex tall tank, my female Mickey Mouse platy (housed with a rainbow male) had a somewhat large batch of fry. I do not know if the fry are from her being with another male from the store (she was in a tank with other rainbow platys but I’m 99% sure she is Mickey Mouse) or if...

    Fry Development

Thank you! The reason I don’t have a breeder tank is because I’m not able to keep all the fry I get, so I let whatever happens happen, not that I don’t want any fry to survive, I just currently cannot provide for all of them in a separate tank. Thank you though!

    Fry Development

Hi! So out of the 15 or so guppy fry I found a few weeks ago, I have only one left.. T-T However, I have noticed that the fry has gotten bigger and hadn’t been chased by anybody else in the tank. I was wondering, since the guppy in the tank is female, around what age can you tell the gender of...

Thank you, I was hoping that’s what it was. I think he is gorgeous, another reason bettas are my favorite!

    Tail type?

Hi! Can someone help identify my bettas tail type? To me, it looks very ruffled, like a feather or rose tail, but I have a feeling it’s not. It could easily be that he’s just not flaring at the moment. Thanks!

    Tank size for females?

Thank you! Would a group like that (4) do ok in a tank like the one from my other post? (20 gal hex tall, 6 neons, 2 platys) If not, I’m perfectly ok with it. I will also add that the store I get fish from already houses all of their female bettas in a large community tank. Thanks again!

    Tank size for females?

Hi! Usually, I only buy male bettas but I saw some beautiful females while out yesterday. What is the minimum tank size for a couple of females to live peacefully? Thanks!

    Platy Question

Hi! I’m happy to say that despite her being super skinny, she had ~10 fry today! 10 was all I could find but they are very hard to see. The fry already have stripes... Here is a pic of the male and a fry (I think the pics in the third post are clearer):
