    Planted silver dollar tank experiment

Wow, your tanks are gorgeous 😍 This is my first tank with silver dollars and the largest one I have. Right now it's going pretty well, most of the crypts are doing good, the first few ate looking a little run down but hanging in there, the new ones haven't been nibbled yet. I took out a lot...

    Planted silver dollar tank experiment

I believe it is an undulata? But I'm not sure, I can't remember. I pretty much told the fish store employee to give me one of each when I started and forgot to write them down lol. I like java fern, but the silver dollars don't. Right now I actually have a java fern in every tank since they're...

    Planted silver dollar tank experiment

I wanted to update on how the tank is doing. It's looking good, not great but good. I cleaned the filter and tank today, i removed some of the struggling plants and trimmed the hornwort. The original crypts are starting to struggle a bit, but they have grown so I left them. I added some...

    New tank for Mr. B

Just a medical tank to make water changes easier, he lived in a 20 gallon before. Yes well I thought about it many times, but he never acted ready, if that makes sense. It would come and go but even when he was at his worst he still swam over when I came over to feed him and chased his food to...

    New tank for Mr. B

Mr BRIGHTSIDE got a new home today. He has been struggling with swim bladder issues for over a year on and off. Every time I've gotten close to euthanasia he's improved before starting to float on his side a week or two later. I convinced myself there was still a chance for him, so I kept him...

Sore on silver dollar's side-newly planted tank

Just to update, the fish is doing really well. The sore is slowly going away and it is no longer pinkish red. Everyone is great, thanks for the insight! My silvers are my favorite fish and I've had them longer than any of my others so when there's something wrong I don't like to leave anything...

Sore on silver dollar's side-newly planted tank

A bite from what? I guess it's possible. Yeah, I feel bad for him. I'll work on it, I'm due to clean the filter anyway. I can use salt, just wondering if it will kill my plants or hatch some of the nirite eggs? It is what it is, just curious. My silver dollars are my prized fish, this one is...

Yeah, I don't know what to think of it, just hoping it heals up.

Sore on silver dollar's side-newly planted tank

I just planted my old community tank as a sort of experiment and it's going well. I used organic potting soil under sand and eco complete as the substrate, I was worried about it leeching ammonia into the water column but have had no issues since it's mostly Hornwort. This silver dollar has had...

    Planted silver dollar tank experiment

Wow, that's so neat. I think it depends on what kind you have, because it seems like everyone has a silver dollar that prefers different plants. Mine don't touch water sprite, they're the kind with the spots. I fed them spinach yesterday, which was neat, although they wouldn't eat it unless I...

    Planted silver dollar tank experiment

The tank is doing good, the silver dollars haven't managed to eat everything yet, but they have made a serious dent in the valisneria. It's the only plant that is really struggling that the silvers are eating. The Cryptocorn wendtii hasn't been touched which is encouraging. The Hornwort has...

    Planted silver dollar tank experiment

I inherited this tank from a family member two years ago now. It came with two five year old silver dollars who had been living in a bare tank. I'm giving the plants a shot, I've read of planted silver dollar tanks before but have never pulled it odd successfully. Over the years though I've...

Five gallon aquarium cycling and stocking

I found the rest of my shrimp... They managed to get into the back filter compartment and have been hunkering down back there. Other than the one I lost, both are alive plus a tiny one I didn't mean to add. I don't know what they've been eating back there, there's also some pest snails chilling...

Parasites? Stringy poo, swollen bellies, swimming at surface, three deaths so far.

Thank you. I did a water change and gravel vac today, I'll focus on keeping the water clean for now but if the gourami gets worse I'll be back. Here's hoping it's not TB! It would be so upsetting if I lost my old silver dollars now after keeping them for so long. Thank you for your help 😊🖤

Parasites? Stringy poo, swollen bellies, swimming at surface, three deaths so far.

Another question, could I get the gourami tested for tb? I know this would probably require euthanasia, but if it gives me a concrete answer.
