    Trouble with corydora

I don't have a test kit on hand I used my last one last week. All the surface movement I have is from my spray bar (should I use the single jet instead) the water is 71 degrees. The are bronze corys. I do a fifty percent water change once a week and vacuum the gravel at the same time. There is...

    Trouble with corydora

Hey I've had some corys in my tank for a little over a week and for the first 6 days no problems. But during the last 2-3 days one of them is discolored (very pale) and he'll sit on the bottom of the tank for minutes at a time. I can see him breathing and I don't see and spots. Does anybody know...

    Diatoms

I was also thinking of getting a powerhead to create some more flow and move the water around to eliminate any possible dead spots. Do you know of any that would work well for my 30 gallon planted tank. It is a community tank so I don't want to make the fish unhappy.

    Diatoms

I have a LED light as well. I've never had problems with diatoms in aquariums I've kept over the 4 years I've been in the hobby. But this is my first planted tank, I think the diatoms were on a plant when I bought them and then spread throughout the tank. I didn't notice this until about a month...

    Diatoms

So I should cut back on both the light and ferts? And I am quite sure it is diatoms. It is spreading like diatoms, it looks like diatoms, it is rough when I feel it. And I trust the lady at the Lfs she's been in the hobby a long time. I use seachem flourish. For a few weeks, I have either been...

    Diatoms

Yeah, thanks for the advice! I've been doing a 30-50% water change once a week and removing it manually at the same time. I would like to hear more about the hydrogen peroxide idea. I would also like to clarify on what my lfs said do you think that is gonna help? (Personally I think that...

    Diatoms

I have some diatoms in my tank and I've learned they will most likely go away by themselves within a few months of setup. I talked to my lfs and she said to increase my fertilizer dosing and decrease my lighting period down to 6 hours a day. Will this help? It sounds like it would make it worse...

    Question

My tank is at 70 degrees. My tank is planted kinda heavy. At first, the algae just started on one plant but soon spread to the substrate and on all the plants. It is on almost every surface in the tank now except the substrate and glass. I would really like to identify it, which would help me...

    Question

I've had my tank up for about two months now. (This is my first planted tank) When I first set it up it was on 10 hours a day with 3-hour midday break. I have been getting brown algae, that covers the sand and is on plants and driftwood. It's in like little bushes (the algae is). I reduced the...

    New tank algae problem

To follow up, I don't know if this changes anything but... The tank is not stocked the only livestock it has is two snails (I think they're bladder snails). I also have the ability to turn down the intensity of the light, I can turn down the amount of white it gives off and the amount of blue...

    New tank algae problem

I have been in the fish keeping hobby for a few years now, I've had a 20 gallon and a 40 gallon corner tank for 2 years. Both of these have only ever been all artificial decorations, rocks and fake plants mostly. I never had problems with algae in these tanks, I always do weekly water changes...

Have i got too many fish ?

I would agree that it is overstocked. There is a rule of thumb to have 1 inch of fish to a gallon of water (which I do not recommend following), personally, I go about an inch of fish every 2 or 3 gallons. If these fish are full-grown, and even if they are not it's a little too much. You can...

Stocking my new tank, I have a question.

Ok good to Know! I set this tank up about a week ago and I'm not gonna add fish for close to another 2 months. I plan on getting more plants and propagating the ones I have to make the tank very heavily planted.

    Is Bio CO2 safe?

I don’t have any personal experieces with bio-CO2. But I do know that plants intake CO2 during the day (or when your light is on), this is when there doing photosynthesis. But at night (or when your light is off) is when they don't need CO2, in a normal CO2 setup the CO2 is on a timer and is...

Stocking my new tank, I have a question.

Thanks for the response. The tank is 30l by 18.5h by 13w. I believe our water is harder, I don't know for sure (ill look into this). I have a sand substrate, I chose this because I like the look and I wanted to keep a bottom feeder fish. It is a planted tank, it is planted pretty heavily (the...

Stocking my new tank, I have a question.

I want to put cpd's (celestial pearl danios), white cloud minnows, and cory catfish in my thirty-one gallon. Does this sound like a good community, and how many should I do of each? I was thinking three species might be to much because they are all schooling fish so maybe just 2 out of the three...
