Thanks for your thoughts! Yeah, as soon as the tank settles down properly, i'm going to add some more peppered corys to go with my lone one dave. Like you say, he is very busy and a small group of them would be great to watch!

I would appreciate any ideas on an attractive schooling fish to contrast with my neon tetras. The idea being to have 2 schools of 6 (ie. 6 neons, 6........). I've been researching and window shopping and like the glow light? tetras. Also, would they get on with each other?

Just adding my bit - as a newcomer to the hobby, my posts are mainly beginner questions. If i knew the answers to the other posts i wouldn't hesitate to help, just as i have been helped. Again, as a newbie i have no complaints here :P and will be posting more questions! Oh and by the way...

Yeah, dogs are great. Grew up with an old english sheepdog, Shandy, until he died at 13. Now i have a black lab, winston. He's 8, and still a bit nuts! B)

So the consensus is to get another fluval 2 plus. Wouldn't it be ok with a fluval 1 to (make up the remainder of the volume) or similar sized, or doesn't it work like that? Do i just put the other filter in and run as normal? While i'm in asking mode, I was reading an old post, and read that...

Thanks for the advice! didn't know that the bettas were that dense - even i can tell the difference between them and lace gourami! The tetras seem to be doing well, should i stick with them or change things. The ammonia is 0, nitrite still a little high, can't remember the numbers off hand...

Update: 2 days later, the water cleared, the fish started looking more like themselves. :D Tested water, ammonia was 2 Nitrite was off the scale! Now both levels are almost right. Did a small water change as suggested, made sure filter was on full. Oh, by the way, I treated myself to an air...

Erm, at the risk of people laughing at me, what should i type in for searches on corys? There, i've done it, no going back now! Also, how many, often and in general, what order should i add fish, when the time comes?
