Angelfish are really just plant-shredding devilfish?

I won’t argue that 🙂 Preemptive attacking is something many humans engage in.

Angelfish are really just plant-shredding devilfish?

Replacing the koi is a juvenile black angel who is nipping away at the plants 🙂

Angelfish are really just plant-shredding devilfish?

I re-homed the koi angel in question to my LFS. It wasn’t just the plant eating, that didn't bother me, in fact it was rather interesting to watch. It was more about its behavior with regard to the other fish, the angels and a Bolivian ram in particular. This koi was a Jeckyll and Hyde sort...

    20G High Questions/Ideas/Suggestions

Also, and maybe I missed it, you said your tank has been cycling for two weeks and is reading 0 ammonia, 0 nitrites, 0 nitrates and that you’ve added some fish food. I’d add ammonia and make sure the tank is fully cycled before adding fish. It usually takes several weeks to complete this...

Angelfish are really just plant-shredding devilfish?

I don't mind them (really just the one angelfish) tugging at the plants. Just want this one to get a well-rounded diet and not rely on the foliage. I'll feed a bit more and focus on the this little koi angel getting its fair share.

Angelfish are really just plant-shredding devilfish?

I don't know Colin, the other angelfish will eat until their stomachs burst, even the bottom feeders figure out how to scavenge for what they want. Feeding them all more food to get this one to eat... I think I'll have some sort of tropical obesity syndrome before this fish figures it out. I...

Angelfish are really just plant-shredding devilfish?

No worries it’s definitely funny. It now seems to be just this one koi angel in particular, and it could simply be that he’s a horrible eater, all the others gobble up everything and this one just kinda looks lost and pathetic during feeding. Maybe he’s simply resorted to the plants. I’ll post...

Angelfish are really just plant-shredding devilfish?

I lack experience with angel pairing. It’s possible the koi have paired, they do typically stay together and are around 6-7 months old, yet they don’t display much if any aggression toward the others, nor do they defend any particular territory of the tank. Another angel if swimming directly in...

Angelfish are really just plant-shredding devilfish?

I’ve been watching them fairly closely and the plants with broad leaves are getting hit the hardest and it’s seemingly from two koi angels. I’ve seen them nip at plants, perhaps looking for pellets, food etc. but maybe I have some tiny snails I don’t see. All the other fish are bottom feeders.

Angelfish are really just plant-shredding devilfish?

I have five juvenile angelfish in a planted 75 gallon tank. As per usual they are the most voracious eaters of all the fish in the tank and are taking to the plants as well. They aren’t hurting for food, believe me and I’ve read they’ll just eat out of boredom, and maybe that’s part of what’s...

I've never kept bettas, but hard water is less than ideal. It would be helpful to know the hardness (GH reading) from your water authority.

I'm no expert and I don't want to freak you out, but yeah other issues could cause gasping, including not getting enough oxygen. Did the gasping stop after adding the air stone?

Dropped my betta fish on floor!

Great fish escapes could be its own thread. I had 3 small loaches jump out and hit my hardwood floor, similarly a 4-5 foot fall. It'd be like me jumping out of a 10 story building. Fish are pretty tough.

Sick Panda Corys!!! Fungus? need help!!!

They can tolerate salt but it can take its toll on their kidneys/internal organs. Maybe they came with free fungus from the fish store and it's become more noticeable now.

Sick Panda Corys!!! Fungus? need help!!!

They are scaleless and they are sensitive to salt. But, I have treated my tank with salt (which included several corys) before learning that. I will say they were fine, it all depends on amount and duration. Were your fish recently added?

    Heater and thermometer not matching

I don't know anything about Dennerle thermometers, but I would always trust a thermometer's reading over the indicated setting of a heater. Personally I've never encountered a heater that accurately attains what its temp indicator reads.

    Tolerate vs Thrive

Mine were seemingly fine with Seachem Flourite as a substrate. It's clay-based and possibly softer than traditional gravel but still "appears" a bit sharp-edged. I removed sections and added the Flourite sand version. The cories hang out in that sand area now.

65 litre corner tank stocking ideas?

Assuming you haven’t purchased the tank yet, (and have the space) why not go a bit larger? Just to allow yourself more options. I don’t think I’ve ever regretted going bigger on buying a tank. But anyway; various tetras, some barbs, dwarf gourami, cories, etc. could all work. My kids are...

    Tolerate vs Thrive

If we’re talking about “thriving”, I think that may extend beyond properly-suited water parameters, but also to having the right substrate, plants, hardscape etc. I have yoyo loaches and bronze cories, yet I started off with gravel as my substrate because I didn’t know any better. I don’t know...

    Help

They likely meant don’t clean the filter media as you want bacteria to build up in there but by all means that filter can be turned off/unplugged for the time it takes to do large water changes, which are crucial for your tank at this stage. Edit: oops - looks like I missed several responses...

Mold on Driftwood - safe for tank or no?

Who is mauling my angelfish or is it a disease ?

It's never helpful to be defensive in the face of problem solving. We're all making a relatively "blind guess" - including you. You came here to ask what is happening and posted pics of chunks of scales removed on your fishes, (in a species that is commonly kept), yet no one has seen this...

    Buying fish online

I forgot to update this, but I did buy four angelfish from The Wet Spot a couple of weeks ago. They arrived in a styrofoam lined box with heat packs and each fish was double-bagged with an oxygen tab inside. One is a timid runt of the litter sort but they're all in very good health.
