    Hello From South Africa

Yesterday when I was feeding my critters I saw what looked like a little white blob flying around the tank at high speed. It was traveling to fast to take a pic but as I was reading Nemo's baby clownfish diary i see that she also mentions this little thing in her tank. What could it be? I do...

Now that just sounds like you mocking me. :fun: I got very frustrated right at the entrance because the lady that I was asking for help didn't have a clue. I'm sure she must have worked in a fish and chip shop before she got this job. Talk about the wonders of job creation! Anyway they...

    Hello From South Africa

The winter temp drops to between 10-20 degrees C here in winter. Our rainy season is summer so it gets very humid and sticky. Haha but you're from the capital of humidity so you'll understand. Our sea temp in winter can be anything from 14-17 degrees C so I'm not sure if because the tank is...

"As for heat, you may want to invest in a cooling fan as you shouldn't disrupt your photoperiod too much. Are you heating your tank with a heater? I don't run heater in Miami, only on the coldest days. " I did think of that. Problem is that my budget requires me to buy food for the month...

Lighting. I'm running 2 fluorescent tubes that I got from the LFS. 1 white and 1 blue. I suppose that I should have kept the boxes to give more details. Sorry. I plan to go to our local Aquarium to find out more about some of the critters that I have in my tank. I will report back to you...

    Hello From South Africa

I had a look at the biotope aquariums on google. It seems that is the direction my aquarium is going without me even realizing it. We have beautiful sea life where I live and it's really been amazing having a little bit of that in my home. I see that one of my biggest challenges is going to be...

    Hello From South Africa

 "We face each other on the same ocean, so we may share critters in common." I think you must use a different google earth to me. 8-) I'm on the Indian Ocean (Warm Water)and as far as I remember you're on the Atlantic.

    Hello From South Africa

I will have to research the "biotope aquarium" as i'm not familiar with that term. We have various types here. I have another pink one riding on a snail that we call a perriwinkle. I checked and it seems that the laws are more aimed at fisherman collecting for bait and people collecting for...

    Hello From South Africa

The hermits move very quickly and seem to be camera shy. I have 3 yellow banded hermits at present. They're local to our coast line so when you go down to the rocks you see thousands in the rock pools.

    Hello From South Africa

Went down to the beach this morning to get some water and to check out the rock pools for some inspiration. It seemed that many salties had the same idea in mind. I managed to collect some ocean rock with loads of coraline on it. I'll use this as a base for more LR. My kids also got in the...

    Hello From South Africa

Thanks for the help with the pic lljdma06. I agree that I'm going to need more LR. Will my tank cycle again if I add more LR later? If so then I presume it would be best to get all the LR in and cycled before adding any coral or fish. Correct?

    Live Rock Spreads?

Hi, I was wondering how long it takes before you see the mysteries that the LR contains. My LR has been in my tank for about 2 weeks and all that I can see is a few tube worms (i think) and a brisle worm. Will I see more stuff emerging?? Is there a way to encourage the growth...

    Hello From South Africa

All seems to be going well with my tank. No diatoms as yet but from what i've read I suppose that is the next stage that my tank will go through. What if it doesn't happen?? :/ Does that mean that the tank isn't cycling? I don't have any test kits but I found out that the LFS will do the tests...

    Hello From South Africa

Hi Again, cured or uncured? Not to sure about that. Maybe I should have asked. All I do know is that it's expensive and fortunateely I have a very understanding wife that didn't seem to mind me spending that money on some rocks. I did go into one LFS and walked out after checking their...

    Hello From South Africa

Hi, I happened to stumble onto this site as I was researching for my new hobby. You guessed it, Nano tanks. I don't have any experience in this but after reading some of the posts in this forum, I think I'm in good company. I'm starting out with a 35l standard tank that I had some tropical in...
