    Stocking My Tank

It's the standard lid that comes with Juwel (dual light bar jobby). I'd perhaps weight the flaps with lead to prevent jumpers! I'd imaging careful water changes as well. So would 2 x Bolivian Rams 6 x Marbled Hatchets 6 x Silvertip Tetras 2 x Bristlenosed Plecos Be compatible? I may look at...

Newbie Who Has Not Made A Good Start!

It may just be the weight of the tank compressing the carpet slightly. Unless it's leaning massively and seems unsteady when you touch the tank then I can't see it being a problem. Have you got a high pH tester to test above 7.5? Your quite lucky getting some used media! I've had to plod on...

    Juwel Trigon 190 Question

Hi What size of tank is it? (Litreage) http://www.juwel-aquarium.de/en/trigon.htm At the bottom of the page is a link to the Manual (pdf file) which'll give you the details. The page that comes up is for a Trigon 190, if you click the top of the page, it'll come up with the Trigon 350 (manual...

I knew it! Still going to test my theory out later simply for my own morbid curiosity!

    Suffereding A Bacterial Bloom

I keep losing one of my silvertip tetras! When it first happened, I took all the decorations and plants (all plastic at the time!) out the tank tank and still only counted 5. I then removed the filter media and had a quick look in there. Nope, no sign of it. Checked all the decorations in case...

Newbie Who Has Not Made A Good Start!

Don't worry about asking loads of questions! I keep asking them! My LFS advised me to use a few "hardy" fish and monitor the water stats (rather than fully stocking). The daily water changes are a bit of chore but the tank looks rather good. According to other people on here, as long as the pH...

Getting Started With A Second Hand Tank

Hi! I'm relatively new to all this cycling malarkly! Can thoroughly recommend the API master test (bought mine off eBay for £20, around £10-15 cheaper than in the shops). You'll get some good advice on here though :good: Shaman Dan

    Stocking My Tank

Cheers I think the idea of getting a shark was more to say "I've got a shark!" Had a quick look on google at the Marbled Hatchets, they look very nice. Am thinking of replacing either/both of the lights in tank with Juwel "night" lights as they seem less glaring. Had a look at the Bolivian...

    Api Test Kit

The api master test kit recommends using 8 drops per 5ml for the ammonia test and 5 drops per 5ml for the nitrite test. Is there any reason why you can't lower the test sample (say 3ml) and lower the drop dosage accordingly. The nitrite one would be straight forward, 1ml = 1drop Ammonia would...

    Hi!

Got my first nitrite reading today! Ammonia just above 0ppm and nitrite <0.25ppm just need to wait til that nitrite solution stops blue!! 70ltr water change carried out.

    Hi!

Well, Checked the water today and got a reading of 0ppm for Ammonia & Nitrite. Will check tomorrow to see if it's the same! Hopefully fish-in cycling done!

    Hi!

I think when I get my next tank (a smaller one for the bedroom!) I'll use the fishless method! Carrying 80 litres a day of water is hardwork!! Though I should be able to clone a filter (hopefully!) for the next tank. I appreciate what you and OM47 say about it only being a human aesthetic issue...

    Stocking My Tank

I'm currently coming to end of my fish-in cycle (after all these water changes the fishless cycle would of been preferable!!)). I'm now thinking about what to stock the tank with. Currently in tank I have 6 silver-tipped tetras to cycle the tank. It's a 180l (47.55 US Gallons/39.59UK Gallons)...

    Hi!

Tank update: Cloudy water all but gone. Light on for 4 hours at the minute. Going to increase by an hour per week to see what happens with the algae. ph 6.8, Ammonia <0.25ppm (Just a tiny hint of green) Nitrite/ate 0ppm. Carrying out between 20 and 60l water changes everyday. Thanks for the...

    Hi!

Hi oldman47! I've got the algae problem sorted! I'd left the lights on too long. My query was with the bacterial bloom that wasn't appearing to shift! Thanks to WD I've got things under control. Just working out my stocking plans now! Shaman Dan

    What Fish!

Thanks for that. I'm thinking: 12 x Silvertip Tetras 12 x Lemon Tetras 2 x Bolivian or Blue German Rams 1 x Bristlenose Pleco

    Hi!

Many thanks for your help. Finished the three day blackout. No algae left! Java fern slowly taking root. Timer adjusted to 4 hours now. Water seems a lot clearer but not cystal clear yet. Changed my water conditioner to seachem. Ammonia <0.25 ppm nitrite 0. Shouldn't be long now hopefully!!

    What Fish!

My tank is now in week 4 of a fish-in cycle (using silver tipped tetras, 6 of) Now the tank has cleared up (algal and bacterial bloom) I'm planning what fish to stock with. I'm definitely getting a bristlenosed pleco. What else would go well in my tank? (it's 180 litres). Shaman Dan

    Hi!

I've worked out that it's around 1.47 watt/gallon (70w of light / 47.5 US gallon or 180l) which sounds about right! Shaman Dan
  20. Shaman

    Hi!

That explains it! The lights are 95cm 35w x 2! Just the matter of the cloudy water now! I'm going to change the water conditioner to Seachem Prime when it arrives. Thanks for the help. Shaman Dan!

    Bacterial Blooms Explained

Hi I've already got a topic running (called Hi! but I though I'd ask here to get a bit more exposure!) I've had my tank (180l juwel) for nearly four weeks (using a fish-in cycle) and have had a "bacterial bloom" for 10days. Looking round the interweb I've had the thought that my current...

    Hi!

The water is now cloudy again (not massively, but still annoying as the clear water gave me hope!) Just a thought, could the water conditioner be causing this?

    Hi!

I've placed two cups on top of the hood to raise the sheet off it! I've no live plants in the tank at the moment (though after reading some of other topics on here, I'm considering getting a bit of Java Fern/Cabomba (sp?) to see if that'll help. I've got a "cheap" electronic timer (that took...

    Hi!

Did a 50% water change last night, water now just "bacterial bloom white." The light has been on for 9hours a day so I've turned that off and put an old sheet over the tank. There is a window near by, but as the tank is in my cellar the direct light doesn't get as far as the tank (chose the...

    Hi!

Water change done today. Readings as follows: Ammonia - less than 0.25ppm Nitrite - 0ppm Nitrate - 0ppm Not had any Nitrite or Nitrate readings yet (other people report getting nitrates from their tap water) so thought I'd check my tap water. All readings are 0ppm with a pH of 6.8. Should I...
  26. Shaman

    Hi!

Cheers for that advice. I've no intention of getting any more fish until the tank is cycled. I've read quite a bit (since buying the tank!) on fish-in cycling. Currently, the ammonia levels hovers at 0.25ppm which lowers with my daily water change. I was just getting a little concerned about...

    Wood, Ph, Sand And Gravel!

Hi I'm new to all this fish keeping business! Just in the process of cycling my tank (already posted question pertaining to that elsewhere and got some great replies :good: ) These questions are for my longterm plans! When I bought the tank, I bought several bags of "Nordic" style gravel...

    Hi!

Thanks for that! & thanks for the welcome! :good: I've sussed (I think!) that 18l a day water change is the right amount! (10%!) I just guess I'm impatient! **edit** The highest ammonia reading i've had is 0.25ppm and the sample is normally somewhere between the 0ppm and 0.25ppm colour...

    Hi!

Cheers. I'm just a bit perplexed as to why it's taking so long to clear! It's been around a week now. It just looks "uncared for!" I've also already got algae. Got an algae magnet to clear it off the glass. (I was overfeeding at the start and have reduced lighting from 12 to 9 hours per day)...

    Hi!

Hi Just thought i'd introduce myself on here! Got my first tank around 3 weeks ago, a Juwel Vision 180. It's been running since then with 6 Silver Tipped Tetras to seed it and things have been going along nicely. (Read up on the internet about fishless cycling after the event!) Just a couple...
