40G - German Blue Ram Tankmates

I know. I am still trying to keep it slightly warmer though. It simply highlighted a deficiency in my tank that I wasn't aware of. The heater gets warm enough, but the flow rate through the sump I guess is to high for it to get the water warm enough on its way through much past 81. I usually...

    Unpopular Opinions (fish related)

I put 10 Black Skirt Tetras in my tank thinking that would be enough to keep themselves occupied. They just formed a gang and instead of going after each other, started systematically killing every other fish in the tank. Within hours, I had 3 dead fish. I dont have a second tank ATM, so I...

40G - German Blue Ram Tankmates

Ram down! Ram Down! ( I'm sure that joke has never been used before ) 1 died, but he was covered in ick. Fins, Gills, tail, body, Everywhere. The other one still has only a few ick spots, but seems to be less today. On day 2 of Ick-X treatment. Temp is set to 81. My heater wont push it any...

Heat to treat Ick? Or Ick-X?

Thanks for the advice! I have already started a chemicals treatment immediately last night using Ick-X, and I set the temp to 80. I have an Inkbird system for the temp control, so its pretty accurate. It monitors the temp, and then activates the heater or chiller as needed.

40G - German Blue Ram Tankmates

There really isnt. Once the parasite has burrowed into the skin its pretty well protected. You have to wait for it to fall off, then burst into new swimming parasites that infect new fish. Thats your window to kill them. Also apparently cranking the temp up to 85 for 2 weeks, but I am leary of...

40G - German Blue Ram Tankmates

This is my first attempt at them. I wanted to mix them with Angels as the two pre dominant show fish of the tank. My angels are doing great ( we'll see what's left standing after the ick ) The 1 ram as I said has Teh Ickies. The other seems to be doing just fine so far and happy, he mostly...

Heat to treat Ick? Or Ick-X?

So. I put in a new German Blue Ram in my tank 2 days ago, and today, he is covered in Ick. First ick case in my tank. I have already drained 1/3 of the water, filled, and put in Ick-X to start the treatment cycle. But this is a 150 gallon tank, and draining and treating back in 50 gallons a day...

40G - German Blue Ram Tankmates

I just put two GBR's in my tank yesterday, and today 1 of them has ick this afternoon. Stress induced I'm sure.. I'm pretty distraught, as this is a very large tank, and treating it is just going to be... painful. 150 gallons = removing and re-adding / treating 50 gallons a day. UHG.

I think I want to add some Lilly's as top floaters. Do you think the power heads will allow for that though? Hrm. Not sure.

So, Minor setback. The Vacation curse strikes. :( I took some time and drove down to Mexico for a few weeks and did the remote private beach house things to gtf away from the craziness going on here in the US ( not talking COVID either ) I had a friend staying at my house for the time that I...

Question on auto dosing Seachem Flourish plant fertilizer

The instructions on the bottle say to use 5ML per 60 gallons 2-3 times a week. Thats all it says. I assume this means in a 120 gallon tank, you would be dosing 10ML per dosing. So if I were going to dose 3 times a week, since i have a fair number of plants, it would receive in total 30ML per...

Thoughts on how to keep small fish out of my overflow?

I was thinking of gluing frame for a charcoal pad to slide into around them though. I think I could do that.

Thoughts on how to keep small fish out of my overflow?

I figure a sponge though would eventually just slide down the inside of the overflow wouldnt it? That back spot where the overflow is goes all ther way down to the bottom of the aqaurium. I would think that the flowing water would just pull it down to the bottom?

Thoughts on how to keep small fish out of my overflow?

What could I use to stuck it in place though that would stand up to water? That overflow is part of/built into the back of the aquarium, and there is no easy way to just afix it in place. I am not referring to that round pipe in the forefront, but those tint little slats in the back. Although I...

    Relocating 75-gallon Tank Upstairs->Downstairs

As long as you can drain the water to a bin right next to its new home, seems like a sound plan to me. A bin full of water would be to heavy to move otherwise. Even the stratum could be put into a few buckets for ease of moving afterwards. I never even though about getting glass holders as...

Thoughts on how to keep small fish out of my overflow?

So, I am using a sump / overflow system on my tank. The overflow vents are located at the top of the tank, and are roughly 1/8'th of an inch wide. See attached picture. Those little vents at the top just behind the outflow pipe. Also see, problem fish. I have had to fish one of these little...
