Hi, Just put a bag of Argos playsand (15kg)in to my Fluval Roma 125 tank. It covers about an 1-1/4 inches of the tank bottom. The tank will be planted with basic plants and have corys and tetras in it. Is the sand deep enough or do i need to add more sand, thanks in advance for any advice, Alan

Thanks waterdrop, The problem is i hadn't yet put in the dechlorinator, just tap water as their were no fish in the tank and was just clearing the tank water after putting in the sand, once cleared i was then going to put in the dechlorinator. Then in a few days when i have sufficient time...

Just setting up my second Fluval Roma 125 tank. I'm going to transfer half of my current filter sponge to the new +3 filter so that i have half new and half old sponge in each filter. Will also be transfering half my fish at the same time so that i'll hopefully have enough bacteria in each tank...

Get some Red Phantom tetras, they are very similar to Serpae's but have a much better temperament. i have eight in my planted community tank, they have a beutiful shine to them, don't fin nip and mix well with my other tetras.

Hi, Don't know about mixing the two or the midnight ones but my Kerris are very peaceful, they are with red phantoms, glowlights and some corys. They are great little fish, fast, use all levels of the tank and always come up to the surface when feeding.

Hi backtotropical, I bought six on Sunday exactly the same as yours from a shop in Glasgow. They were also advertised as Julli's but after reading your posts i knew what to look for. They definately look like Trilineatus. Their cracking little fish and seem to be enjoying their new environment.

I have the same problem but not as many as you seem to have. they are either small snails or the eggs. i just squash them against the glass when i see them and this seems to be keeping the numbers down.

Fast delivery service, although plants weren't labelled which made it hard to differentiate the smaller similar plants, plus wash them thoroughly as i'm still removing snails daily even after cleaning them prior to planting. Plants are growing great though.

if your looking to use ammonia, Homebase sell 500ml bottles of household Ammonia for £1.95 (white bottle with blue cap), thats what i used and it worked fine.

Just checked water stats again today (24 hours later). Ammonia was back down to 0, Nitrite turned purple,instead of the dark blue of yesterday, as soon as i put drops in (Take it it's off the scale) and Nitrate was 5. Added 4.5 mls of Ammonia to bring it back up to 4ppm. Will check again tomorrow.

In the process of doing the 'Add and wait' fishless cycle pinned on here by rdd1952. I initially added enough ammonia to bring it up to 6ppm but within 4 1/2 days it was down to 1ppm with nitrite about 5ppm. I added more ammonia to bring it up to around 4ppm then tested it 2 days later (today)...
