    Cockatoo Behaviour & Sexing

Not extended - or at least nowhere near as pronounced - it looks more like a flat top than a spike & the first 3 or 4 are all black - the rest of the 'finnage' has no colour

OK - think I've managed to get the photos a bit larger: Though probably not as sharp now :S Obviously the one with the lovely colouration is a male - it's the other I'm unsure on

    Cockatoo Behaviour & Sexing

oh.....bugger  . I thought (& so did the LFS staff obviously) that the males have the colouration while the females are duller? I take it that's not always the case?

    Cockatoo Behaviour & Sexing

I've bought 3 Cockatoo Dwarves yesterday (1 male & 2 female supposedly), but have had to take the smallest female back today as she was being bullied by the other 2 :( . Since then, the male has started to chase the other female away - is there anything I can do to stop this, should I just add...

Picked my 3 cockatoo up today  they're amazing - no fear at all, just went for a wander round the tank straight away - the male already seems to have found 'his' territory  I've spent more time watching them than doing anything else today  I'd highly recommend these for you :D

    Less Aggresive Small Cichlids

I've just reserved 3 Apisto Cacatuides - I've heard nothing but good reports about them & every time I've been to the LFS to lok at my 3 the male has come & stared at me like he's daring me to go for one of 'his' females  that's charcter enough for me  will let you know how they get...

Need Help Choosing Tetras To Put In My Community Tank

Hi, I'm in need of some advice please - I have a 90l (20g) community tank & will be stoking it tomorrow. I'm definitely having 3 Apistogramma Cacatuides, 5 Sterbai Cory, 2 Red Honey Gourami & 10 Harlequin Rasbora. Firstly, if I add any more fish am I overstocking too soon? Secondly, if not...

    My Fish Stocking List

On that point - I think Harlequin Rasboras aree the way to go - does anyone have any idea on how many I could comfortably keep in this size tank with the Black widows as well?

    My Fish Stocking List

Thanks waterdrop - might forget the idea of Cardinals then - any opinions on another small shoal-type fish? My wife saw a type of Rasbora that she thought was really pretty, but she can't remember what it was called (I think it was red?). It was a friend of mine who suggested the Apistos -...

    My Fish Stocking List

It appears that I am finally cycled woohoo :D . I've come up with what I want to have, but being a first-timer I'd appreciate some feedback on choice, compatibility, amounts etc. I have a 90l tank & at the moment I'm going for: 5 x Sterbai Cory 3 x Apistogramma Cacatuides (2 x female, 1 x...

Help - Am I Cycled Or Just Having A Mare?

They were German degrees (don't know how to get the degree symbol on my keyboard  ). I'm definitely cycled - I raised my ammonia back to 5ppm last night, 3 hours later my nitrites & nitrates were off the chart & 11 hours after adding the ammonia I had zero ammonia & zero nitrites...

    Help With Snail I.d. Please

Hi, I've just noticed today that I appear to have a couple of freebie Apple Snails! There is a larger one (although still only about 3mm at the moment) which is now moving around the sand & seems to be leaving a 'stringy' substance behind it & I've also noticed a smaller version or 2 (about...

Help - Am I Cycled Or Just Having A Mare?

I'm pretty far (I think) into my fishless cycle & everything was going well until Monday, when my pH crashed :( . On the (excellent) advice of this forum's members I did a 90% water change which bought everything back into line again. When I did today's tests 12 hours after adding ammonia...

    Ammonia Dosing

   the 7 year old is too crafty for that to work - had a Physa snail come in on the plants & the little'un went mental when he saw something finally moving in there  . Already got the bogwood in on 1 side & the kids have taken some of the tank for themselves with...

    Ammonia Dosing

The nitrite is rising, but it seemed a bit slow which is why I was checking - it was all going great then the pH crashed a couple of days ago, thankfully a 90% water change sorted it & it's all back on track now. Just wanted to try & speed it up - got a 7 year old & 2 year old keep bugging me...

    Ammonia Dosing

I'm currently fishless cycling my tank & I appear to be doing ok at the moment, but after reading a couple of articles I'm now unsure if I'm dragging my heels so to speak? My ammonia is dropping from 5ppm to zero in 10-12 hours & I'm currently re-dosing 24 hours after each dose. Should I be...

    A Question On Food

It's a 90l tank - the goldies are only little - we had orandas in it initially & when they 'moved on' we had the same size goldies - they won't grow to that size surely? . I've bought bloodworm & daphnia (freeze dried) - can they have that as well as flake?

    A Question On Food

Hi, I think I know the answer anyway, seeing as they eat pretty much anything, but is there any tropical foods that you shouldn't give to Goldfish? They are just standard 'little'uns', in a 25l tank (3 of them), I've bought a big tank to start keeping tropical fish & bought a lot of food, so I...

OK - the pH has gone back up to between 7.5 & 8.0, and the ammonia after 30 minutes is reading at 4.9 - when I test again in 12 hours do I just test for ammonia & nitrites, or pH as well?

Help! Ph Crash What Do I Do?

Hi, I'm well into the cycling process (or so i thought), but today I've done my water checks & I still have ammonia (although just a trace), hardly any nitrites & although my nitrates are still quite high, my pH has dropped to in between 5.0 & 5.5 :shout: .
