    Hex Or Tapeworm?

No, the waste gets to about 2" or 3" long before it breaks off, and then the process starts again. I can't see any worms coming out with it, unless they are very small and falling away whilst I am not looking

    Hex Or Tapeworm?

He isn't clamping his fins at all any more. Seems to have stopped doing that since the medication was put in the tank. He is still passing the white waste and has been doing that constantly for about 2hrs now.

    Hex Or Tapeworm?

Some of them will eat veg, some won't. They are very fussy. I will try some peas in the tank. His colour is still good. There is a little clamping of is bottom fins. On occasion I have noticed that he does tilt forwards (head down) a little.

    Hex Or Tapeworm?

I put the med in the tank a few hours ago - so too early to tell. I am not sure if he is bloated - I will try and get some better photo's of him. He is slightly more bloated than the other discus perhaps. I feed him bloodworm (I am aware it can cause constipation, but haven't had any trouble...

    Hex Or Tapeworm?

There appear to be no other symptoms, the body, scales, fins, gills and head all appear to be perfectly normal.

    Who's Eggs Are These?

Just did a 35% water change on my tank, and once all was out - I noticed there were some eggs on the filter intake pipe. Not sure who laid these - I suspect it was my angels, though they have never done this before. Unfortunately all the fish (including the angels) started eating the eggs as...

    Hex Or Tapeworm?

One of my Discus as started hiding at the back of the tank behind the plants. He has done a few stringy white poops. The poops are often between 2" and 3" long. Sometimes they are a bit segmented and other times they appear as one solid whole. He has pretty much stopped eating, although he...

    Cardinal Numbers For Rekord 80

Well to be honest the tank is probably capable of supporting more than 30 cardinals even, as they aren't that big. I work it out as follows: 80cm x 30cm = 2400cm squared. This is your surface space. I then allow 10cm squared per 1cm of fish. 2400cm / 10cm = 240cm. This is the volume in cm...

    Cardinal Numbers For Rekord 80

Personally I think you could get away with few more cardinals than that. Maybe 30. Depends on how wide your tank is. What is the width of the tank 30cm or 40cm?

    Angels Or Discus

Many people keep both Angels and Discus. If you get Angels when they are small they generally will not cause any problems for the rest of the tank, as they get used to other smaller fish. The Angels in my tank are the most peaceful fish in there. Discus are generally quite peaceful as well...

My New 76 Us Gallon Tank Setup

Those aren't necessarily stress bars. The bars can mean many things - some breed of discus have them all the time - i.e. any Leopard breed. My discus has these bars...

    Does Sand Cloud Water

Depends what sort of 'cloudy' you mean? 1) If it is yellow/brown cloudy then that has come from the sand. 2) If is it white cloudy then that may be something else...

    Stocking Capacity

Simply because they recommend high stocking levels. This is fine if you maintain the tank - but some new to fish keeping don't always do that, so the high stocking levels can quickly cause a problem.

    Stocking Capacity

1" rule if you want to play it safe - and don't want too much work (like water changes) But you can certainly put more in the tank. I work on surface area - allowing 16cm squared per 1cm of fish. Many people don't like the thinkfish calculations. Personally I think they are fine. You would...

    External Filtration

I have put filter floss in four of the six trays. It lays over the top of the bio-media. I get the impression that the particles don't go through the media. Instead they bypass the media and go straight back out the canister again. Here's a picture of what I think happens: What Should Happen...

    External Filtration

Okay thanks. I noticed in another thread you mentioned lubing the rubber seal. Maybe this is a daft question, but is there any chance of the Vaseline getting into the tank and causing trouble? I haven't used a Eheim filter yet. How do they compare to the Fluval - I noticed my 305 doesn't...

    External Filtration

Hi guys - hope you don't mind me hi-jacking this thread - seems a bit pointless to make another one with a very similar question: I currently have a a 200ltr tank - which is being filtered by a Fluval 305 and an internal Interpet PF3. I think the combined flow rate is between 1400lph and...

    Discus Fighting

I just brought my 2nd Discus this week. I already had one Discus on its own - the original Discus is about 8 months old and is now quite a size. The new one is much smaller. Unfortunately the large Discus keeps bullying the small one, who ends up hidden in the corner behind the plants. As...

    Discus Aggression - Help Please!

It's a 200ltr tank. Measurements, 39"(L) x 16" (W) x 18" (D) so it should be fine for a number of discus. Though in honesty I have reached my stocking level regards other community fish: 2 Peal Gourami 2 Angel Fish 10 Neons 5 Bronze Cory's 1 Bristlenose 2 Discus Some may say this is...

    Discus Aggression - Help Please!

Ok, thanks for the replies. So...now I am considering doing as the LFS suggest and swapping the large Discus. I've been down the LFS this afternoon and it looks as though I could swap the large one for 2 small ones. So not too bad. This puts me up to 3 discus. Then next week I will just...

    Discus Aggression - Help Please!

Ok cheers. I will see about getting some additional decorations for the tank that may help. Two other questions though if you don't mind: 1) Is there any chance at all that the bullying may eventually disappear? 2) At best I could only afford another ONE discus, would this make any difference?

    Discus Aggression - Help Please!

Hi, I have had a discus for about 6 or 7 months now. He has got to about 5 or 6 inches in size, very healthy and nice. I went a brought a new discus two days ago - which was probably a mistake - the old discus constantly chases the new one. Well I say constantly - but really it is only when...

Bent Up Ram - What Has Happened?

Thanks for the link Wilder. After reading up on that, I don't think it is the cause of the bent spine - as the fish had no problems yesterday and today its spine is bent. Seems a little too sudden to be skeletal issues. I am thinking it maybe an injury. The two Rams in the tank picked on...

Bent Up Ram - What Has Happened?

Their toilet is fine...I don't think it is parasites - have seen that in other fish and there is no sign of that. He may have injured himself but it is hard to tell, there is no sign other than the bent spine. There has certainly been no sign of any problems with him up until now.

Bent Up Ram - What Has Happened?

Just came home from work and found one of my Rams all bent up. I moved him into a hospital tank, but am thinking I will have to put him down. He seems unable to move anything but his side fins. He is breathing but really struggling to do so. His body is all bent, and it appears he is unable...

This is what I thought - and sorry to bring this up again aaron, you probably saw me mention it elsewhere. So - non-sudden changes in Ph are okay even for the most sensitive of fish like discus?
