To Dsb....or To Not Dsb, That Is The Question

Thanks for the advice!! I do plan on a reverse light cycle in the sump...if not 24hour lighting. A refugium is my main driver for setting up a sump. The added water and a place to hide additional equipment is an added bonus. The sump will be 3 stages with the refugium being the second stage...

To Dsb....or To Not Dsb, That Is The Question

Hi all. I have been lurking the southern portion of this forum for awhile now. Reading all the journals every last word in the MARC....and no I was not scared away. I've got this project in my head, and eventually I will get it going. I will be setting a reef tank up in a 46 gallon bow front...

    Noobs Ltlb 10

5th month! Things are just about on auto pilot. There had not been much need to fiddle with anything. Algae is 98% non-existent, and every plant in the tank has been healthy and strong. I even may have figured out my enemy...dwarf sag. I started dosing Flourish Iron on the day I dose my trace...

    Diy Led Hood Build

Hi Craig, I've been watching this thread because I want to do similar builds. There does not seem to ever be much DIY assistance in this forum. Are your drivers dimmable? And what are you using as a heat sink? Update when you get a chance because I want to build my LEDs right into my hood as...

    Cyanobacteria How To Kill It?

If you're desperate Google treating algae with Hydrogen Peroxide. I wouldn't do it, but tons of pros out there endorsing its use. I used Maracyn, and have not had a problem since.

    Led Lens

I've just started looking around at DIY lighting, and I have seen most people choose 3w bulbs with 30 degree lens'. Any good sites that I could use as a resource to help me calculate my PAR, and tell me the difference between a 30/60/120 degree lens? I'm looking to set up a Nano reef, so it...

    London Olympics

I guess I could have worded the Poll Question better...I'm more curious as to how life is with the world being IN London, and not as much about the world watching London. For the football question...We were to lazy to change the name. Par for the course for how the world typically views us...

Rebounding nicely after my hatchet job I think I may have the DIY co2 dialed in, and developed a schedule for adding fresh bottles in order to keep co2 at optimum levels. I think I may start backing off the Excel.

    London Olympics

Most of the people I talk with here seem to all be in England, but we're all so busy talking about our tanks and fish I never heard anyone mention a single thing about the Olympics. I was just curious as to how life has changed for everyone there now that you're in the world spotlight for the...

    Obsession Or Not

Obsession!!! My wife bought my son a 5.5 gallon on a whim...it quickly became mine. Still my favorite tank. Heavily planted and keeping CPD's. Added a 12 gallon tank that I got for free from a person moving to Australia. Saved his Dwarf Rainbows. Bought a 20 gallon long for a Nano tank, and...

I feel your pain. You know I felt the same way after pruning mine. It's kind of like getting a bad haircut. At first you hate it, but then it grows out. You'll get it dialed in! Deep breath...clear head...patience @FF - with my luck I would have another boy, and that would surely send me...

    Dwarf Hair Grass

I don't have any hair grass, but if you're up for a 45 minute drive Aquarium Adventure in Hoffman Estates seems to always have some available. Not cheap though...$6.95 a pot. I would call first if you decide to make the trip.

    Commitment

My 5.5 gallon tank (my learning tank) is still my favorite one to play around with. You don't have to start off that small, but start smaller and cheaper, research the right fish, and learn some practical skills....maintenance. You will have some exciting success, and before you know it you'll...

    Celestial Pearl Danio Fry

Very Cool!!! Have you done anything special to get them to breed? I would love it if mine would. I have put in a lot of flame moss and christmas moss in hopes that some day they will. But, like you said they are pretty hard to see(I can only imagine). And, I'm as blind as a bat.

    Fluctuating Co2

Thanks Minnt. The tank is only 5.5 gallons. Like 20ish liters there about. I have 2- 1 litre bottles on it, and I'm getting light green almost yellow in the drop checker...makes me super nervous I'll wake up to some gassed fish one day

    Fluctuating Co2

Perfect Sense. Thanks Ian! I guess my question should have been WHEN is the fluctuation they are talking about. Which you answered....during the photo period. I haven't gone pressurized yet, and I have a yeast set up. I am following Supercoley's thread in the resource center, and have a...

    Fluctuating Co2

I have been working hard at perfecting the balance in my tank. Currently I have been working on the co2. I know my goal here is to get to a stable 30ppm, but when algae occurs due to "fluctuating co2 levels" what does that really mean? All the time? During the photo period only? High to low...

    Noobs Ltlb 10

This looks a little too close to yellow to me. I will wait an extra day next bottle change. First I have to determine duration. Can anyone tell me how long the solution can stay in the drop checker? I mean will it go back and forth between colors depending on the co2 levels? or, do I have...

Drop checker is not working due to the fact I got the wrong info on making the 4dKH solution. http://www.plantedtank.net/forums/showthread.php?t=178491 This recipe I actually tested, and is the real deal. We'll see what the morning brings. I added a 2nd bottle to the Co2 system today. It...

Co2 Goes To Bubble Counter And Then Stops

Could be a leak...but you should also check a couple of other things. Check valve running in the correct direction? and what kind of diffuser are you using? I was using a ceramic diffuser, and it stopped working after a week. Gas build up ended up popping all my silicone

    Drop Checker Solution

    Drop Checker Solution

I found something on the net. Stated .98 grams of Sodium Bicarbonate to every quart of "distilled" water. It said it would get you pretty close. We shall see. 10 hours and still absolutely no color change. Might have to re-think this, and get some new info.

    Noobs Ltlb 10

Another DIY moment for the Noobs... With the yeast co2 system going I figured it would probably be a good idea to get somewhat of a baseline reading of where it's at before I expand it to a 3 bottle system. I made this using a medicine spoon that I found in my kids bathroom, and a blow...

    Drop Checker Solution

Excellent. Thank you. I have already made my 4dKH with distilled water and baking soda.. I don't think I should have used equal parts of each though...it's really dark blue right now.

    Ladder Diffuser

I have been using a ladder diffuser for a couple of weeks now. It had been working perfectly. Suddenly the bubble will no longer track? I havent made any changes...flow, position, ect I fiddled around with it for about 30 minutes before I finally gave up. Any suggestions to get me back on track?

It is a much needed thin out, and I did have a plan in mind for each plant. First pruning: I thinned out the Wisteria, but left some of the height. Once it roots I'll be able to do some of my "chop stick" grooming to get it into shape. I also thinned the crypt spiralis quite a bit. For some...

Will Gsa Come Off Plant Leaves?

Lol!! Thanks! You're right about not being answered. Still not sure...I am guessing no. None of my new growth has GSA, and older growth still does. Luckily after adding co2 and dosing Excel the growth in my tank literally has exploded. I plan on trimming all the infected leaves tomorrow...
