    Lighting questions

  Hey, dont beat yourself up over it, we all make mistakes sometimes. Should you want a cheap way to change it to something a little easier on the eyes, you can go to the local stone and gravel co. and get a bucket of pea gravel (usually for free) wash it well and put that in...

    Lighting questions

Yep, thats them. They also make one that can go into the water on the back of the tank. Dont get them confused with the lazer light for fresh water tanks, those change color and move around and do things I dont want to see. Not to cool for a reef, or any tank for that matter. B)

    Lighting questions

You can make a night light out of blue LED, will only cost pennies a year to run them. Or, the LFS has should have them, if I remember right they are $20 to $100.00 or so. Your coralife light is much nicer than the one in the link, keep that one and add the blue LED. You dont need much light at...

back to Marine after a 2 year rest

The sound of running water is relaxing, or at least thats what I try to tell myself as I am trying to fall asleep at night. Good luck, let me know if you find a way to make it quiet. Then again, if I stay some place other than home, I dont sleep well. If I can hear it, it means that it is...

    My New Nano

Yes they are, is that wrong? Just joking, they are just being treated in it for velvet. Don't want copper in my reef tank. I was wondering how long it would take for someone to comment on it. (less then 10 min.) Thought it would be fun to post the photo after that "Tell is this wrong or what ?"...

    Arrow crab

I just took mine back today, he was getting too large. Thanks for reminding me. I have over 200lbs live rock, and he was very easy to catch. They are not runners, they will stick their legs out and try to scare you off, just grab a leg and pull him out.

    Arrow crab

Olive, I have an arrow crab. They are great for keeping down the bristle worm population. However, they will also eat small shrimp and small fish as they get bigger. Mine just took down two cleaner shrimp at $20.00 each. Get them small, take them back to the LFS when they start getting larger...

Night lighting is great, the fish can see so that they dont end up swimming into something that will eat them.

Tell is this wrong or what ?

Dont be sorry, I agree that putting a tang in that tank is just stupid. It works great for coral only or for small fish.

Try using Garlic Xtreme, 1 drop per ten gallons. This should help in getting him eating.

Tell is this wrong or what ?

Ah, guys I hate to tell you this, but thats the tank I set my neighor up with. We added another power head and he does water changes every two weeks with water out of my reef tank. He has 3 damsels, an arrow crab, hermitts, and snails. They also make a 12 gallon and I have seen corals thrive in...

    Ick med with UV

I found my ick meds, and it can be used along with UV. It is Garlic Xtreme, a food supplement that also is to be used if the fish has wounds or parasites. It is an all natural product, and is reef safe. I am currently treating a Sohal Tang the LFS sent home with me.

    converting to salt

I have a 75 gallon, my start off cost was around $1,500.00 (US) I spend around $100.00 a month, this month $400.00. I will be ordering a custom made stand from Woodharbor, $2000.00 My old stand is giving out due to the weight of the tank along with a little water damage. Over all so far without...

    pale lawnmower blenny

How long have you had him, do you have many bristle worms in your tank? I have been told that it is possible to salt burn the gills, but he would have had to be right in the area that you put your new water in. I just lost my Sailfin Tang, he was very healthy, eatting well, then one day he...

    pale lawnmower blenny

Well, it sounds like he is stressed about something, it is good that he is still eating. I would think that keeping the lights down low might help. Does he have a good hiding place? Did anything happen in his usual spot? Is someone invading his spot, or did you move any live rock or anything?

    How to start one

The best way to get the answer you are looking for is to read the rest of the forum, then post what tank and equipement you think you need or want, and what type tank you want (fish only, reef). Let us know what you do have, and we can go from there.

    Compatability

No, Damsels will die if they go in, so they stay away. Clowns are ammune to the sting. Be careful when working on your tank, you can chase the damsels into an anenome, this happened to me just a few days ago. Damsel is doing fine, I got him out quickly, but his scales are pretty messed up.

    7 gallon cube

Most tank raised clowns will not go in an anemone, only the wild caught clowns. If you want one that will make its home in an anemone you need to get a wild caught clown.

This product can cause false very high ammonia, nitrite, or nitrate readings on some test kits. Multiply by .0009 to adjust test results for ammonia and nitrite; .000912 for nitrate. Can be used with Coral Vital and Coral Vital LSB to create an ongoing cycle. Just making sure you read this part.

You will want to also put something like Bacter Vital Marine/ Brackish water Formula in it. www.marcweissco.com. This will help cycle your tank quickly. Make note: This product can cause false very high ammonia, nitrite, or nitrate readings on some test kits. Multiply by .0009 to adjust test...

You should be OK doing that, it is when you put new into the damsels tank that you run into the problem. I would still keep an eye on them, and pull any that are causing problems.

SW tanks take much more of your time, and much more of your money. You will need alot more equipement, and alot of reading and talking to someone who really knows what they are talking about. If the LFSs tanks look healthy, then they probly know what they are doing. If you see unhealthy looking...

Your clowns will not get along, they need to be young when you get them and of the same type. You can mix the damsels, get them young also. As the damsels grow and get used to the tank, they will pester any new fish that you put in, which can stress the new fish causing them to die, die, die. So...

Box fish can be deadly to the rest of the tank, be careful about what you put in with it. I have a 75 gallon SW tank and used to run a skimmer and 2 Mangnum 350s under it that I modified with sponges out of an aqua clear 500. (Close to what you have done.) It is best if you mix your salt and...
