    Phosphate and PH

Thanks Colin. Yeah I have been toying with idea of going RO for a while now. Main goal would be to reduce tap water phosphates, nitrates. Thing that holding me back is the worry about the possible ph swings. I am happy with my ph but it could be nearer neutral. Everything I read says that stable...

    Phosphate and PH

So I did the test. I filled two buckets with 10 litres of water in each. One bucket I put a small piece of Phos-pad ( super fish brand ) in the water, 4” x 3” in size. I let the buckets sit for about 60 hours. This morning I gave the buckets a stir and did a load of tests. Phosphate levels in...

    Phosphate and PH

I currently do 40 - 50% a week. My tap water in pretty high in phosphates anyway so not sure that increasing the water changes would help much.

    Phosphate and PH

Good idea I’ll do a test ??I heard that phosphates help with buffering of water. So I thought it might alter the water if it was removed.

    Phosphate and PH

Hello everyone. I’d like to remove phosphate from my aquarium because of algae growth. My tap water has 1.3 phosphates. So I want to use a Phos-pad in my filter to reduce algae growth. My question is, will removing Phosphate alter my PH? Cheers

    Phosphate in tap water

My tap water does come from rivers and streams according to the water company. Had lots of rain recently, so makes sense that readings are high at the moment.

    Phosphate in tap water

The water company’s website says that Phosphate is 1.3 mg/I. My tests show almost 5 though

    Phosphate in tap water

Thanks for the info. I’ve got a phosphate removing cartridge I can put inside my internal filter, but will look into ways of pre filtering tap water. I use a pozzani for nitrate but I don’t think they do a phosphate filter

    Phosphate in tap water

Thanks. The algae isn’t out of control yet but I definitely want to keep it that way. I am currently using seachems flourish, which contains phosphates. I certainly don’t need to add more, so just ordered some of that TNC lite. Really my main concern is my fish. Wonder if I need to be reducing...

    Phosphate in tap water

Hello. There appears to be lots of information about nitrate but not much about phosphate. I’ve started to hair algae on my plants and wood. So I thought I’d re test my water for phosphate. The phosphate reading on my tap water is nearly 5ppm ! The water in my aquarium tested as slightly...

Nitrates in tap water - tropical tank

Hi @sparkyjf. I use a pozzani aquarium nitrate removal filter. It removes all the nitrates from my tap water. You can connect it straight to your kitchen tap using a garden hose pipe. You may need to to buy an adapter for your tap ( depending on what tap you have ). I got one from Wilko for...

    Sterba Cory group slowly dying

Ok yes will do. After all the surface flake had been eaten, the platys have learned that they can get more food on the bottom, so they do steal the corys food. One platy gets essentially aggressive with the other platys....never seen her attack a Cory, but they do get scared off the food...

    Sterba Cory group slowly dying

A few days ago her dorsal fin was split, it is no longer split but still a bit jagged, so hopefully she’s getting better. She swims normaly. I’ve got 5 platy ( and a platy fry ) in the tank, they do get a bit excited at feeding time, often stealing food from the corys. Decor I have wood, pebbles...

    Sterba Cory group slowly dying

ok so I’ve been keeping a close eye on my cats, and they don’t appear to going the same way at the 2 that died. One has a slight split in her dorsal fin, but it actually looks better ( less split ) than last weekend. Time will tell. I‘be done a lot of reading about it and i don’t think lowering...

    Tank on Carpets

Im lucky and have a solid concrete floor underneath the carpet. It’s sounds extreme but if your worried about it maybe you could cut a section of the carpet away, so that stand is on the more stable wooden floor. Had to do this with fitted wardrobes in work a few times. But I guess this depends...

    Tank on Carpets

I’ve got a 125 litre tank on thick carpet. I filled the tank up with water, and it rocked quite a lot, which is not safe during water changes etc. So I let it settle for a week or so ( so it sinks into the carpet ), then fixed some stabilisers to the wall behind the cabinet. It’s solid now...

    Sterba Cory group slowly dying

oh sorry to hear that. I started out with 4 corys in the tank ( moved from another tank I had ) and then about 2 months later I bought 2 more....from the same local fish store. I’ve had the group of 6 for about 4 or 5 months maybe longer. One of the original corys died first, a male, then a...

    Sterba Cory group slowly dying

Hello all I had a group of 6 sterba Corys in my 125 litre tank. About 6 weeks ago one of them died, 2 weeks after that, another one died, and now I fear that another one might die as she is showing early signs. Each Cory had the same symptoms, I tried researching but have not been able to work...

    Water conditioner question

I got confused about this recently regarding pH. After testing and testing numberous times, I found that the pH in my aquarium is different ( slightly higher ) to the pH of the water straight out of the tap, by about 1.5. After drawing water from the tap, into my buckets, I add conditioner and...

    Reducing nitrate levels

I remove nitrate from my tap water with a pozzani aquarium nitrate remover filter. It comes with hose lock clips which you can attach to your tap at home. No need to plumb it into your pipe work. Very simple to use, instantly removes nitrate from the tap water. Works best with a low flow rate (...

    External Filters

Hello. I have that exact same set up. I like it but I have been contemplating going external. I decided against it for now, because of the danger of leaks, and space in the cabinet storage underneath the tank, I like to use that space for other tank essentials. Also I find the U3 easy to...

    Frogbit dying off slowly

Ok thanks for that Steve. I’ll give it a week or two, and if there is no improvement I’ll get my water tested. I’m hoping that the issue is just the lack of phosphate or significantly lower levels of nitrate. Since using the pozzani nitrate remover, my water changes add no nitrates to my tank...

    Frogbit dying off slowly

Ok thanks @StevenF. I removed the nitrate and phosphate remover from my filter on Saturday. Noted about the Flourish. I’ll give it a few weeks then see how things are going. The pipe work inside my home is plastic ( cheap new build rubbish ;) ). So I guess my water could be lacking copper.

    Frogbit dying off slowly

Ok thanks a lot @StevenF. I have hard water, my GH is 10. My nitrate is currently between 10 and 20 ( there’s isn’t much different in the api test colour between 10 and 20 ).... today is water change day, so it will be going down to 10 at the most after that. I can not test my phosphate with...

    Frogbit dying off slowly

Thanks @essjay. Yeah I had read that about frogbit, but also read that it doesn’t matter so much as long as they’re not underwater completely. So I’m not sure either way. I used the frogbit as part of my silent planted cycle. It was growing extremely well for a month or so. Seems strange how...

    Frogbit dying off slowly

Hello. I have a 125 litre planted tank, with 5 stem plants ( one of is an amazon sword, but forget the names of the others), one java fern and some Christmas moss. I also have some Frogbit, which is is fenced in using fishing line and suction cups. The frogbit started out growing very well...

    Platy Flouncing off plants

Hello. I’m not expert, I’m still learning ( other members are on this site are very knowledgeable ). But i had ich or white spot in my old tank. I used a white spot treatment ( the brand was Aqua care ). It’s was blue and I mixed a solution with tank water, as the instructions stated. I was...

    Nitrates in tap water

Yes it’s strange. I’ve read lots of conflicting things about pH. I’ve been testing my water, tap, tank, filtered etc for weeks now trying to work it out . I think I’ll just stick to what I’ve been doing and mix unfiltered water with pozzani water, it seems to work fine. I don’t want to risk...

    Nitrates in tap water

Ok thanks. Tbh I’m finding this a bit confusing. My pH from the tap is about 7.6 ( the water company say that, and the pH test confirms it ). The water in my aquarium is slightly higher, nearer to 8. After using the pozzani for the first time, the pH dropped to well below 7. Then after letting...

    Nitrates in tap water

Hi Seangee. That makes sense about the water companies wanting to protect the pipes from acidic water. But I thought it was the other way around.... the pH of tap water rises after standing because of C02 gasing out. Also my tank pH is slightly higher than fresh water straight from the tap.

    Nitrates in tap water

Hi @xxamyxx85 Hope you don’t mind me restarting your thread. I’m just wondering how you’re getting on with your tap nitrate. I am having the same issues at the moment. My tap water is 21ppm, I recently bought a pozzani nitrate remover..... I thought it was amazing, then I noticed it had dropped...
