oh really you don't need salt? I have always added salt to all the fish tanks though. so if a goldfish is going into the tank is it ok to leave the salt inside? what do you mean by getting a glass of tap water?

I have not cycled it or put any bacteria or anti chlorine inside as I wanted to see if the dirt in the water would sink or go away

the fish has been occasionally trying to flap its fins, as if wanting to swim but even if it rises from the bottom of the tank, in less that 5 seconds it goes back down.
