I am not sure I want to mess around with anything like that.   I think the only thing I am going to add is some bacteria laden sponges from a friends tank.   I just don't want too many variables to start doubting lol

We are already pretty soft here, so keen to avoid too much of a drop. :)   Still deliberating over substrate! Proving really tricky, each time I find somthing that I think fits the bill, I find a whole bunch of reports telling me it is no good for bottom dwellers!   Will probably end up going...

Ha ha I have that problem before!! Soaking this more to limit its effect on PH Our tap water is neutral but we have bad buffering capacity so things like tannins can badly affect PH I prefer slate, it is inert and sinks ;)

Totally - in more water the effect would not be as severe. My point was that it had changed the PH of The water in that tub in less than an hour. Eek As least I have plenty of time to soak it lol

Hey All   I have set up my FE and TMC regulator.   I have a quick question about bottle and regulator pressure.   The bottle pressure is currently around 800psi and my regulator pressure is around 25/26 PSI   Does that sound about right for a new FE?   Thanks Aaron  

So we all know that bogwood lowers the PH of your tank so I thought I would see by quite how much....   As per my last post, I have a container full of bogwood soaking for the next 3 weeks at least.   I changed the water in it this morning so thought I would compare the water in the container...

This is what I really don't understand about your woes, by normal rules your tank should have been pretty much cycled straight off the bat!   How long was the mature media out of the water before it went into the new tank?   Do you know what the last owner of the tank did to it before you got...

The API kits have been known to return false positives for ammonia, normally .25 Give it a quick google and read up on it Some people have suggested that the tubes must be thoroughly washed and dried I never dry my tubes other than sticking upside down in the box

Worth a shot. It could be a cause for concern, perhaps it was cleaned with bleach or similar. Replace it for peace of mind.

Gravel will house some bacteria yes I am not sure it is essential though

I just don't understand this Did you check the parameters of the tank the mature media came from? Just wondering if the two tank parameters were too wide apart and the bacteria died Is the filter definitely working properly

Great thread! Thank you!   I am off to get myself a Koralia for my new tank this week! One question I do have though, is 10 times flow not going to be bad for fish?   Or will they still find some spots that are less turbulent than others when needs be?
