    Bad smell in tank

    No its more of a dead smell. Which could have been from snails that were in the filter or dead beneficial bacteria because the water was cold and stagnent,but I fell if that were the case there would be an ammonia spike.

    Too be honest the rams horn snails just blend in and I don’t really notice them much, I also don’t think there are that many(like maybe 20?) whereas I have hundreds of other snails, so that says too me that they don’t thrive and breed as well.

    Good or bad snail?

    I personally love snails! Specifically mts, you can never over feed! I purposely feed the mts and now I have a couple hundred in my tank. I also have bladder snails and rams horn snails, at night the mts come out and scaveng but during the day they stay underground.

    Platy fry question

    There really isn’t much of a need to separate them as long as you have somewhere for them to hide, like plants. In my 40 gal I have a pile of rocks in the corner and the fry drop down into it and then in a day or two they start to come out.

    There is a female counterpart, but you can only really find them online. most fish stores just sell assorted females not certain breeds, unless they sell pairs.
