  • Moved the Beckford Pencilfish into the 48x12x15 today, had a minor scare just before netting them into tank after acclimitisation when I found one poor fish flapping on the guinea pig run floor (but it recovered instantly thank goodness)! Big transformation in the tank, the Rainbow/Pastel Tetra are now more confident and so are the Tinanti Blockhead Cichlid duo... Planning to reintroduce the Microsynodontis polli/ sp. 1 survivors tomorrow, all being well.
My huge-belly female Ilyodon xantusi has finally given birth overnight, must be at least 5 new additions, that are almost as big as other 7 day old fry!

Decided to give the Ilyodon teenage adults an upgrade today to the Rio240, was shocked to count ~29 fry left in the 48x12x15! Keeping an eye on the newish ~5cm Steatocranus tinanti, I don't want him treating the fry as "live lunch."

Well the S. tinanti pair have been moved out to the Rio240, caught the male at least trying to eat the smaller Ilyodon, if not actually succeeding.

The Rio240 looks so busy now (8 Ilyodon xantusi; 7 Phenacogrammus (nigropterus?); 4 Megalechis thoracata; 4 Synodontis flavitaeniata; 2 Steatocrnaus tinanti; 1 Chaetostoma milesi)... Cannot wait for the Ilyodon fry to gain a bit of size and then move an least some of these Africans back into the 48x12x15!
New group of 10 ~2cm Microsynodontis sp.1 are diurnal water current junkies, wandering around ~8cm Ilyodon xantusi and their fry!

would you be intersted in joining a south west ciclid group?
We have Lionhead Cichlid babies again! Not so good to lose a male Humphead Glassfish though, he was constant fixated on the fry and "mum" was protecting her brood.
Does anyone else wish they could re-do their stocking again from scratch, or is that just me?
