Hi i have just rescued this catfish from someones malawi tank, it was the only fish left and as they didnt want to keep malawis anymore they just turned all electricity to the tank off so fish have been dying for the last 5 weeks. This guy though has managed to survive the 5 weeks with no filtration, heating lighting or food, i had him my hospital tank for 2 weeks where he seems to have made a full recovery, i have now added him to my main tank, but just need some help id'ing him, i think its some syno but not entirley shore as he doesnt have the same shape as my syno.

will have to add pics one at a time im afraid dont know how to add all to same post

It is a Megalechis thoracata, formerly known as Hoplosternum thoratacum.

Many thanks cfc just done a google on the name and that is him ok, although the only picture i found had way different markings to mine, but you can see it is him many thanks.
 
I go along with CFC, Hoplosternum thoratacum.
I didn't know of the name change. Thanks for that CFC

cant help with the ID but jeez i cant believe i'm hearing this. so they got fed up with the fish so just turned the tank off.

that is equal to a cat owner not wanting their kittens and chucking them in a sack with a brick in it into the nearest river.

no thats actually better as the kittens will die realtively quickly. well done on the rescue at least one was saved.
