Yesterday I brought home a beautiful marble CT boy, and named him Rio, meaning river since he is blue and white. He is acting okay, a little shy but I think he's just adjusting.

A few minutes ago I was looking at him and noticed he has a white, slightly fuzzy film on one eye. At first I thought it was blindness, or cataracts but Rio seems to be seeing fine. It doesn't look like popeye, or at least not advanced popeye: the eye isn't protruding, it just has this milky white semi-transparent fuzz over it.

I can't take pics to help in diagnosing because Dad has taken the camera to work in Darwin for two weeks. I've added salt and am about to do a water change. The earliest I can get to my LFS is tomorrow afternoon, or I could send mum to get something during the day. What do you think the problem is, and how should I treat it?

It could be some sort of fungal infection.. Is he pale, inactive, not eating, clumped fins? It's hard to tell without a picture.

:) Thanks for the reply, Cauchemar.

Well, his fins are fine although he is clamping his pectorals. His colour is vibrant and he is eating nicely. I just finished the water change. Apart from sitting in his plants or on the tank bottom with clamped pecs he is showing no other signs of illness.

My pH is 7.0, tank size 1.5 gal. He's the only inhabitant. I might treat for fungus/popeye.. what medications should I use? I don't have any on hand.

I have a betta who has a white film on her eye its been that way since ive gotten her...its not really fuzzy though...it doesnt seem to bother her at all and see seems like she sees perfectly normal...does it look sorta like this?

Thanks Lady but nope, it's more fluffy and fungus-like.

I lowered the water level, as he is more inactive now. I feel so helpless... I'll add more salt and get mum to pick up some meds tomorrow.

What are some good anti-fungal meds?

Okay, I got mum to pop down to the LFS while I was at school and buy some Promethyasul. And she put in in Rio's tank for me! :) Since then, the fungussy growth on his eye has dissappeared, they're still cloudy though. He is either sitting up the top of the tank or resting down the bottom with clamped pectorals most of the time though.

I hope he pulls through... :-(
