Hi Everyone,

Haven't been on here for a long time due to changing career, but got a week off before starting my new job, so am enjoying the week revamping my aquarium and pond :D.

I brought a run down old 5' tank at the beggining of the year for £40, and wanted to show you a pic of the tank as it stands today. Cabinet and hood have been sanded and painted as it used to be mahogony, but didn't look right in our lounge so had it painted white. The aquarium is stocked with Cardinals, Cherry Barbs, Discus, Bronze Corydoras, 1 Apistogramma and a showl of Pearl Danios.

Looks really good, have you got any pictures from before?

Like the way you have used those fake creepers at the back, looks good with the planted bogwood.

The only thing I think would finish off the tank would be some grass growing along the bottom in some areas. Simple species like the sagitarius or lilaopsis. Glossostigma varieties are another nice carpeting plant but as far as i know are harder to grow.

Hi Ben,

Thanks for your reply, I agree some grasses would be great but with the Discus they don't seem to do well as they produce so much waste. The aquraium used to be fully planted witha c02 system but gave up on that as it became such hard work keeping the live plants healty. The only plants I have kept is the Java fern growning on the Mopani wood, seems indistructable and looks great, just need to transfer some to the new piece of wood on the left.

Best Regards
Lawrence

Here's a pic of the tank when I first set it up with live plants..

If you use under gravel heating you should find you have no problems at all because this creates a convection current to keep things from going anerobic in your substrate. However you should find that grasses will work if your filter is good, and as always CO2 is a bonus!
